Hello HDC!
I sold my 70 series over the summer and picked up a 100 series. This one has a non-oem windshield and I found a leak after a bunch of rain a couple days ago.
To the other HDC 100 series owners, have you replaced your windshield and who did it? I’ve read plenty about how it can be a fussy task and investing in someone who will follow the factory procedure is worthwhile.
Any recommendations would be huge.
Thanks!

I have a 100 but I still have the original windshield so I'm no help.

I had mine replaced at Horizon Auto Glass on Menaul and Wyoming about 2 years ago.
They were recommended by a trusted service writer at Sandia Toyota.
They knew about the rivets, and ordered all the correct replacement parts for the new windshield install.
They have since changed names, but I bet it’s the same crew of people doing the work.

I will say that you should remove any wiring you may have routed around the interior of the windshield before dropping it off anywhere.
Had a keyless antenna mounted behind the mirror, and the wiring was damaged during the install. I had to diagnose, replace, and reinstall on my own time/dime.

Other than that, windshield seems be installed as it should, and no leaks detected.

We all have good/bad/ugly stories with glass shops!

I have a hard time for a glass installer to put urethane on the body and on the replacement molding (gasket) per the FSM. When this isn't done on the 80, it causes the glass to shimmy during winter over washboards, and of course water intrusion occurs on the corners. I'm due for a new glass on the 80 again, and I think I'll have them come to me so that I can ask the installer (pay him $20?) to put urethane per the FSM. Doing this at a glass shop won't work since they won't let you inside!

I'd avoid Safeflite brand of glass since they have distortions when looking through it sideways. PWG is no longer offered but that's my preferred glass. Pinkerton is another quality glass but it's also hard to acquire.

Horizon auto glass has been my go to forever, but they don't want to put urethane per my request. I've shown them water intrusion, but the manager didn't want to deal with me. Now, if they came to me, maybe things will be different. The RR branch is right down the street from my work. :hmm:

As a temp measure, place duct tape along the three perimeters of the glass in order to prevent water from going in. Water goes in through the sides or top, then collects in the inside corner of the molding, then trickles behind the dash, finally onto the carpet or on my left foot if I'm driving through rain. I use black Gorilla tape, cause I'm classy, doncha know. :hillbilly:

I also buy OEM windshield molding and hand the package over to the installer.
