Imagine a plumber coming to a house to install a new toilet, or an electrician to fit a new light fixture and the home owner telling them how to put it together.

Lots of blokes will be off side and defensive from right there onward.

When I call to hire a technician, I lay down the law right there. That way the instance of my telling said Technician what I want after he/she arrives won’t be necessary. The customer is always right. Think about that for a minute.

Hey, I'm not saying you're wrong, just dealt with tradesmen on a daily basis my whole life.

I think being clear with what you expect up front is the right approach, but not a guarantee you'll get what you want.

This is the exception to the rule that further proves the rule. In the world of specialized trades or professions, the pros have to err on the side of the customer has zero idea what is going on. In the rare case that the customer knows what they're talking about, the tech can then consider this information and if skilled, will be able to utilize it to perform their job even better.

Edit: I may have misread your post, thinking you meant you were going to tell the tech (whatever trade it may be) what they should be doing. However, if you mean you're telling them from the get that you expect the job to be completed to your satisfaction, that's understandable.

Safelite did the windshield (followed FSM) on my 94 and it has been problem free install and cracking wise for 3 years. I paid out of pocket and IIRC it was $600 something

Of course I had a quarter sized rock hit it within the first year. It’s a bad chip, but did it not spread.

I'm same Windshield with New Gasket.
Met guy that did it for $200 and I gave him a $20 tip so $220.
That's about tells you what the Glass Actually Costs.
He thought it was a Butyl Rubber Glue in Like Cars today and was Surprised to See it's Gasket Seal.
He said Gasket Sealed Windshield is Common with Commercial Trucks.
There was some bad Rust at Passenger Top Corner.
I Cut out Gasket, Wire Wheeled, Cleaned with Brake Cleaner, then Put in JB Weld. Should be better than what it was.
Was not trying to get into Body work just stop Progression - JB Weld is Pretty Close to Moon Glow Pearl.
