Going camping, alone, and want to sleep in the 100 instead of hauling the family tent, I'd love to make some screens for my backseat (aka 2nd row) windows, so I could leave them open at night withing being attacked. Rear hatch would be nice too but more involved. Would also be great if they had some type of overhang so if it rained/heavy dew it'd keep it out of the 100. Figured I'd see if anyone had made any before I just go to the Depot and start building.

X2 for Mot, he's got the neat screens! Not sure what to use for rain protection.

I really liked this idea for camping in the Cruiser but when I called, they stopped making them :frown:

Now that my wife got her new fancy serger, maybe I can have her figure out how to make one like it.

go to home depot/lowes and get a roll of screen door...screen. Take it, trim it to a little larger then your windows, put it over the window into the door jam and close the door. Insta-screen. As for the overhang, window visors work well if the window is only opened 1/3 of the way down.

attacked by bugs or punks? different construction parameters :)

just get the heavy screen if it is some flatbiller punks :grinpimp.

Thanks, Cory and Joshua!

The 2nd-row screens for the 100 and 80 are the same and I think I have a couple of them left in stock!

PM me if you're interested, but the method described by 1loudLX would work as well!

Like others. Go buy nylon roll up screen. Hot glue the screen onto thin roll up magnets.

What I did was to make it over size, and slap it on the door frame outside. Can close windows if you need to. I'm sure we can do for the back gate as well.

I like the magnet idea, I imagined something to fit "inside" the window frame vs sticking on the outside, think I'll try that route first.

Thanks

Josh, I wanted that at one time but like you said, they were out of business. I ended up buying the cheapy version and it works well for summer camping. You get an extra ~16" of floor length as opposed to having the tailgate closed. Fits better than it looks on this van as the van has no tailgate. Set-up and take-down time is fast.

I have used the nylon screen/magnetic strips without glueing or anything. Just hold the screen to the opening and lay the magnets around it. Not fancy or beautiful, but works great.

since it's pictured on a minivan, how well does this one adapt to the 100? how do you like it? i still want to get a tent adaptation for our 100 and since this one's so cheap, why not?

the one i originally wanted was the Specter Off Road one, like this (minus the camo):

but they stopped making it a while back. they said they could make one again for me, for a low price of $900, ouch.

those window screens that Mot has ARE pretty sweet. i also like the idea of DIY screens and using magnets to mount them - seems like a pretty simple adaptation. i dunno if it would fit, but i'm wondering if a paint strainer bag might be wide enough to slip over the rear door/windows. from what i remember they're a little bit stretchy and are super cheap and disposable. i might try it out, i've got a couple in the garage that i use for making compost tea for my garden.

This is Harridig's 80 but it fits about the same on a 100. The rear opens up as a screen door and also fully open. I like using it when sleeping by myself because I don't have to fully unload the inside compartment, I just need one side. If the wife comes along, I use the RTT.

How tall are you guys - no way I can sleep in the 100 without some kind of extension to the tailgate!

Old thread here, but I just tried this. It seems to be pretty effective, however the roll-up magnets don't seal perfectly at the bottom as there is plastic trim. So even if you extend down to the door metal, there is a gap.

This may be the simplest solution, and I should have considered before buying the magnets and gluing. I am trying to think of any pitfalls to this solution, but can't?

looks like it should keep the majority of the airborne (mosquitos) out.

Ok, I did. They probably will be a much cleaner fit than my hack-job-of-a-screen attempt.
