Add a little fold-out awning to protect against the rain and you'd have something.

Old thread here, but I just tried this. It seems to be pretty effective, however the roll-up magnets don't seal perfectly at the bottom as there is plastic trim. So even if you extend down to the door metal, there is a gap.

This may be the simplest solution, and I should have considered before buying the magnets and gluing. I am trying to think of any pitfalls to this solution, but can't?
I just picked up a pair of the screens at WalMart on clearance for $1.00 made by "Who-Rae Air Shade". I'm sure there are more out there.
Here's one on eBay: New in Package/Mulit-Fit Side Window Air Shade/Who-Rae - eBay (item 300415324175 end time Apr-11-10 07:55:26 PDT)
13 yrs later...so how is / was the quality? Does anyone have viable window screen solutions for then car-camping? Has anyone tried simply buying a few feet of window screen, then holding it up inside the doow (w/window rolled down) and shutting the dfoor? Would the seal created by the door weatherstripping be enough to keep a good seal?I ordered theskeeterbeaters. I will let you know the quality.
I just use the slip on style screens... I've had the same set for 6+ years. I also have rain guards on my windows. I can keep the window about 1/3 of the way down and the screen installed in light rain and it stays dry.... In peak bug / heat season windows stay down and screen keeps bugs out... The dual layer screen helps13 yrs later...so how is / was the quality? Does anyone have viable window screen solutions for then car-camping? Awesome, thanks, just placed an order. EDIT: I tried size ML and it was too small (not tall enough), then I measured and replaced with size SM/RL and those are good. I have heat shields for when it gets real hot but these help keep the heat down too
Actually I even sleep with windows down in winter / below freezing to keep condensation down and the screens are used in snow and cold too..
Quick , cheap, easy, and packs small. No reason to ghetto rig it with window screen when stuff like this is less than $20

Can you post up a link for the heat shields and size, you use as well?
