Well I went this morning to the Gym, and I turned the rig on (94 FZJ 80) and as I start to pull out of the driveway my power steering is winding. I get out and look at the reservoir and see that its full. I had been noticing my steering being a little hard lately so I had checked the reservoir before and didnt see much in there so I added some fluid. Now its making noise. Any ideas on what I need to do to make it go away.

Florida- by "winding" do you mean "whining"? Have you checked for a leak in the system? When was the last time you checked the PS fluid level? What type of fluid did you add to the PS reservoir? It is also possible you have air trapped in the system after adding the new fluid. CDan recommends a small amount of Downey fabric softner to quiet noisy pumps, but I'd check your PS for leaks first. Search prior posts for details on amount of Downey, or maybe someone who remembers can post it here.

No more than a tablespoon of liquid Downey.

Yeah guys, its a whining noise.. Unfortunately I put some cheap Power sterring fluid ( i was at a gas station at the time ) didnt want to mess up the pump. Now when I open it, its bubbly and maybe a little foamy, its yellow in color. As for a leak I dont know about that, I guess not because the reservoir is still full from the last time I put fluid in there.. That was a week ago, and i have been driving it a few times since then... Any ideas on what do do next???

Any reasoning behind the downey liquid????

if it's bubbling then you are drawing in air from somewhere. I had a similar issue with a bad hose on the low pressure side so there was no obious leak but it would suck in air.

Is this the truck from up North? If so I'd suspect the cooler where the lines run under the radiator. They can corrode to the point of leaking and they are on the low pressure side.

If this turns out to be the problem I have a good used one that I removed from my truck to plumb in a custom cooler.

Let me know.

Ya guys, I flushed my power steering system out yesterday via the removal of the return line of the reservoir, and then lifting the axel and pivoting the tires back and forth.
Upon refilling, I didn't get enough Synthetic ATF back into the reservoir, and I got the 'whining' sound that he heard, as well as the foaming. I think that this is due to the high speed of the fluid coming back into the reservoir via the return line that is located above the level of the reservoir if it is under-filled. Fill it to it's proper level and both the foaming and noise go away.
