hey fellas ive got a problem with my winch everytime i use it on a pull it wants to kill my truck it starts to drain all the juice out of it any suggestions on what i should do????????? the winch is a older m6000 warn and ive got it hooked up directly to battery a optima red top no relay or nothing just straight to battery on my 88 22re truck please help

If the winch appears to operate normally except for the fact that it drains your battery very quickly then I would go have my battery tested. Any of the car parts houses will normally do that for free. I went through a yellow top and two red tops in consecutive weeks with my 85 4Runner until one was installed that would hold a charge.

Battery issue.

Optimas are Junk IMO. Go to wal mart, look for a battery that is for a 'trolling motor' and is also rated for starting.

You'll be happy.

I've got an inexpensive dual purpose battery from Costco. When I run my M12, which presumably would suck more energy out than the 6000, it doesn't do anything to the idle. Hums happily. No issue.

gotta be your battery.

(no weird resistance when free unspooling the cable, right?)

Check your alternator too. If one of the phases has dropped off line, then it can't put out enough power to fully charge your battery. But, it could still put out enough to start and run your truck. This happened to my van. The alternator lost one phase and the dash guage didn't show that anything was wrong. The van would become hard to start when we were making a number of short trips because the alternator didn't have enough run time to recharge the battery.
