Apology accepted.

I understand the passion. We're all in 80s, right? I sure wouldn't mind having a shiny new Warn, but lord know what the Finance Minister would've made me sell to buy one.:smokin:
Mike, I like your reply but, I can't say I like the idea of a new winch. My 1st winch was (and still is) a Ramsey 8k. Bought it used (1 time) 'cause the owner under estimated what he needed for a full sized F350. I installed it originally and properly sized on a D50 4x4 mini pkup. Went dual batteries with an isolator. Got rid of the D50, kept the winch and installed it on my '94 80 series. Got my 1st gen '81 Mini a few years back & realized the Ramsey would be perfect for it, now it's on my Mini. So then my 80 was winchless. Was on the scout for a 12k for the 80 and read on here about Woody trying a HF 12k on his 80. Got the last one (at the time) in a Portland, OR HF on sale for $299. Could tell the difference immediately in pulling omph. Not used often but, works well every time it's called to duty. If it dies, (it's already more than worth the $299 I paid for it) I'll pick up a used & proven 12k. I agree with you Mike about operator abuse is a winch's worst enemy, no matter what brand - whether it be ignorance or negligence. Also extremely important is the installation - wire gauge and battery health. I've always run with an aux battery/isolator for the winch, except still need to set it up on my Mini. Not as much room under the hood as the 80 has...lol

The Comeup Seal Gen 2 9.5RS (made in Taiwan, not China) fits with no issues. It does however touch the body just under the grill (photo below).

The DV-12s Light "might" fit (compare the dimensions on their website with the Seal Gen 2 9.5RS... which does fit). The DV-12s Light is not a fully sealed unit... but that may not matter to you (many Warns are not fully sealed either)

Hey Pat,

What kind of bracket did you use to mount your solenoid box? I just installed a Comeup Gen 2 9.5RS into my shortbus and was looking into what options I had as far as placement of the solenoid box.

Warn 8274, if you can afford it. last a lifetime...
