Hello, all. I was out yesterday performing some basic trail clean up with the new winch. While hauling a fridge up an embankment, my brand new winch motor stalled about 10 seconds into this easy pull.... very discouraging! I figured something shorted, and upon removal today, I found the problem. One of the terminals that feeds power to the brushes had poor contact where the brush wire screwed to it (inside the motor). The heat it created warped the contacting area, the resistance increased and it came to the point where the motor could not be suppled with enough power, causing it to stall.
So I cleaned things up, made sure good connections were had by all 4 brushes, then reassembled. The winch pulls great again, nice, smooth, and strong. Problem - it will no longer power out, which it did do prior to this stall. Flick the toggle either way on the remote, and it pulls in... wierd. My contactors (big solenoids) are working properly. I am at a loss... any one out there have some ideas? Another new winch motor?
