ha i did pick up my glass today i traced a template of the windsheild tonight but I think the side windows are going to need to be re cut. I think I am in a bit over my head trying to figure out exactly how much needs to be trimmed on them . my plan is to get the glass shop guys come help me install them.

anyone have a good source for an inexpensive but sturdy optima type battery tray. I don't think I need the blig machined aluminum ones but I want a smaller tray in that my battery tray area is a bit tight in that my 87' 2f's ac compressor mount kind of cuts in to the battery mount.

been getting some good time in but ran into a stubleing block trying to get the dizzy in or out its stuck half way. :(

Ha I can't aford a new camera i have boxes from $OR coming in almost daily. this has been one expesive project thats for sure. I think I saved Fox from having to sell his children to finish this lv. but I am loving every minute of it

speaking of price and cost of things while I am eventually planning on a vintage air ac/ heater unit I am leaning toward picking up a stock fj40 front heater. I got rid of the huge box that sat on t he passenger side of Wilma and don't want to go that route again. but i figure I can get the fj40 heater in and the heater lines set up and it can be a place holder for the ac unit at a later date. not exactly what I want but functional.

the glass guy is coming over tommorow at 1pm I think the rear windows are too big but the front should be sized right . i have already traced the front windshield. so hopefully tomorow will go well. I am excited to get the glass in

i have already been in contact and talked with Vintage I even made a mock up of there unit came classe twice to ordering it all but I am just not ready for it and i am glad I did not. funds have been re proiritized i think it is more important to get in on the road than have ac on a cruiser that sits in my garage:) i have cleared the nescisary area and while not not the perfect way to do it. it will have to do.

I agree, I am pissed that I have taken mine to the level of destruction it is at bc I feel like it may never see the road. :frown: Some times I think it would have been wiser to have made the swap, get it running and then take it apart for resto. oh well too late now.

It's been fun watching your build! Quite impressive. I think it's wise to get it running and then add the goodies later.

I've spent a TON of money on making cruisers look good....and then attend to the machinery behind the truck.....what a mistake. One I plan on never making again.

Good looking progress on your ride. Lets see some pics once the glass is in!

ok where to begin ... windows are in yeah. not without the usual hassle. the side ones were cut right and while I went with safty glass they cut the safty glass the same size as the original glass so if you use the $OR fj40 windsheild gasket you can reuse your original glass if you want.

the front windshield was a bit more of a hassle. the template I made was off so I had to eat the cost of a front windsheild and the glass guy had to come out and make a template with me. trying not to look at the negative of the experience because I sure learned alot in the process. like our windsheilds while flat are not straight across like the fj40 the centers of hte top and bottom of the windsheild are about a 1/2" above the horitzontal plane so the bottome edge and the top edges of the windsheild are curves. kind of cool really but not so cool when your curve does not translate on the bottom edge of your template :(

so me and this old salt of a window installer got the side windows in on friday afternoon and the front one in yesterday. interesting guy before he was a window guy for 30 years he painted cadilacs in his youth had some great painting and sanding tips.

so I have glass big miles stone in the build for me

we got the crank turned an the oil pump moving oil around the engine on Saturday and got my stuck (broken) distributor out as well anyone have a 81 or newer dissy? I think I have a line on one . also messed around abit and got the clutch filled and bleed. i have a working clutch now :)

last night was mocking up and cutting up and rebuilding my fan shroud to fit in the right place. notihing seems to ever be just plain bolt on oh well thats what makes it fun.

oh one last note. I have a decent template for the front windseild. the glass guy recommended that I trace it on to a 1/4" peice of plywood and store flat so I have a good template for when I might need a new windsheild. I still plan on getting it traced on paper and scanned in so the ret of you can down load it when needed.

all 4 gaskets for the front side and rear hatch windows were the same early fj40 gasketfrom SOR. the sides and back had to be cut to fit but the front fit perfectly in that it ws the right size. kind of nice for a clean look where as you do see the seem on the side windows. I haven't really looked for it on the rear hatch yet.

took you long enough to notice the avitar:) I got the inspiration from your 45 run graphic. but I couldn't leave it alone and kept adding to if you want i can send you the corel draw or illustrotor file just pm me your email address

So just to clarify. ( I need my 5th cup of java )

This is what works:
Early FJ40 Windsheild
Early FJ40 Rear Hatch Window

What did you use for the side rear cargo windows and doors?

I wanted to do more detail, but when doing shirts less is more. Shoot me a copy at rodney at bullsac.com

hang on not the windshield its self but the gasket that hold in the windsheild and I used the following SOR gasket for the front windsheild gasket and the two back side wind gaskets as well as the rear hatch gasket.
120-03B/A-A/108
and the corrosponding Key or zipper which I don't have hte SOR cat number handy. this gasket fits perfectly in the front windsheild but has to be trimmed int eh side windows and the rear hatch too. as far as the door windows I just kept the stock glass. I had not really thought about changing those out just planned to reuse what I had.

I will shoot ou the file tommorow from work.

Ok been busy will take some pics this week end, nothing major really just alot of little stuff. went to the local junk yard and picked up a nice set of grey seat belts out of a mid 90's taco working on getting them mounted going to have to cut into the B pillar just have not decided where yet but that should not be too bad. I went to the hardware store and picked up some nuts that I can weld to some 1/4" plate that I will then tac to the inside of the B pillar.

I got the muffler and tailpipe bolted up last night. I went with the SOR package now I just need a pipe from t he headers to the muffler. I ordered some 2.25 straight pipe from summit so I hope to get that bent up at a local exhaust shop.

reworked some brake lines and got my distributor installed......still need s to be timed but that will have to wait until the engine is closer to being ready to start...

I ordered a vintage air heater yesterday. I just could not see making the expenditure for AC at this time. I am set up for it but I just need to get this thing on the road first. I will take pics of my install on the heater when It gets here.
