Wilma's Buildup thread - FJ45LV

ok been a few days since I last posted. been making steady progress on a couple of fronts. i finished up jamming the doors and putting the sound proofing in them. I went with the phat mat. it is a decent product it sticks well and is easy to work with. it is not as thick as the Dynamat extreme I used on my fj62 but it does have the reflective layer that should help with sould and heat. and was 1/4 the cost.
Meanwhile I tore apart the rear axle in order to install rear disk brakes. i know my original plan was to leave the suspension and axles alone until after it was on the road but replacing the firewall to get the brake booster to fit steam rolled into redoing the brakes and I have some time to kill until I get the floors and can finish up the body work so i sourced all the brake parts and should have it all installed by the end of the week end.... anyway hear are some shots of the axle stripped down and painted ready for the rdb peices to get bolted on.
for those in the know do these rear springs look stock? or do they look lifted. in most of the brocure pics I have seen the springs tend to be flat while mine have an arch. while I don't plan to keep these in the long run if they are lifted and I order a 4 inch lift it really will only be a 3" or less left...

ok I got about 4 hours on the Wilma last night. one step forward 2 steps back I am afraid. I tapped too hard putting in a rear axle seal so I have to wait for another one before I can but the rear disk set up on the passenger side but the drivers side is on and all set up. for those of you just tuning in I used posers machined out disks and his brackets. which are awsome and come with all the mounting hardware very nice set up. I ended up getting my calipers from TSM as well as there braided lines. so here are a few pics of the drivers side.

btw doors look great!!! what kind of paint you spraying?? Also clear or no clear???

thaks it is nice to start to see some progress on the old girl. I am spraying a base and then a clear over it. (basically what Matt did)
I am using ppg MBC Base and then a nigh quality ppg clear over it. the one shot of othe back door is misleading it looks as if i painted the whole door and it is finished but it is just jammed and while the over spray of the base coat almost covers to the centor of the door my over spray of the clear did not make it near as far thus , in my view of the ic, giving it some whoat of a flat appearence. oh well it will get evened out during finally coat down the road.....

I just noticed I was about to get bounced to page 2 adn that I had not updated in a few weeks. I have been busy on a bunch of projects. a bunch of little things on the lv.like getting my power steering hoses made up. I ordered some fj40 saginaw hoses. but I am running the OEM 2f power steering pump so I have the SEA fittings ont eh box side and the OEM fitting ont eh pump side. anyway appereantly it has been more complicated a job than I thought cause I have had to go back twice to the hose shop to explain what I want.
I took the weels and tires to get mounted today.
I finished up the rear disk brakes and got the diff all back together.
finished painting the firewall. I have collected a bunch of random parts that I still needed. thanks Kina for the accelerator pedal and linkage. I seem to have all the brake fitings lined up to switch the hole system to new lines and the more modern 10mm fittings instead of the 9mm fittings that are on my lv now.
I went to my local club meeting and saw jsaltlick's fj45v in person and got to meet him as well. much nicer in person that on line
but my big project that will effect my lv eventually was getting my 1/4 trailer cleaned up and pianted and close(r) to finished. I even started a build thread for it

I have a club/mud member 'leapingdeer' that is alot more mechanically inclined coming down next wednseday night to help me bang out some of the mechanicals. plan is to get the drum e-brake on my 87'split case. I have all the parts for the swap.....hopefully ..... and hopefully get the steering stuff all together and maybe bend up some brake lines. i will be happy go just get the e brake on and working.
i finished up the doors justhave a few parts left to jam the fenders being the largest but they have the bedliner on them already so its just the tops
then ofcourse the floors are due any week now

I believe that you are going to need floors for that thing. You should really get on that guy who said he would get some for you. That other guy that makes them said he has been done for awhile.

I actually had a somewhat productive night on Wilma tonight a fellow YT club member Jason aka 'Leaping deer' came over to help me instal my parking drum brake setup onto my split case.well i did not have the big gasket to replace so i will have to wait to split the case but we did get the parking brake setup put together and the new holes setup for the ebrake cable. so it was a productive night.

Where the hell is the 'floor-guy'? Damn, haven't heard from him since they made fun of me in my stock Tacoma in the snow 'bout 4 months ago! Sheesh! Yeah, get a hold of that 'floor-guy' and see what he can do. His repro panels will go well with your buildup!

We've got to check on 'Root to make sure he's not drunken silly and in the backyard of his LV storage making 'vroom vroom' noises in his LV convertible!

been getting some time in on Wilma here and there I blocked out and painted the dash and the inside of the firewall. I figure to sart getting things put back in so it mind as well see some paint.
I got a big box from Amsoil so all the fluids will be amsoil. figure to start at the top. I also got my hard brake lines. well atleast the box of tube and ends and a flare tool and bender. i bought some used ones that go across the firewall from a 78 fj40 i know they are not the perfect match but I plan to use them as guides to bend my own. will take pics of the process. I got a set of v6 mini truck calipers and MC so when those get here I will have all my various brake parts.
those ofcourse will get here before the floors so hope fuly I will have the brakes all down in the next bit of time.
oh I changed my user name I didn't like my old one. I like my new one.

its now quite a normal user name but I don't pretend to be normal.I am using Poser's on mud's rdb bracket and rotors. and I got lazy and did not track down the calipers at napa instead bought them from TJM as well as the hoses. I have since gotten an order of brake tube and ends as well as braided lines for the front brakes from Calssic tube and those are really nice the hose that goes from the axle to the hard line at the frame has a cool built it T with a hole in it to bont it down to your axle housing top. very nice it means one less fitting to loosen or tighten.
