So Ive had the elderado rear disc brake swap for three years now and they stop the hj47 troopy great in combo with a newly built front axle with proper 40 discs in the front. however, in the 3 pad changes ive done, the caliper has started leaking from the ebrake handle on the back. the little o-ring on the shaft where it passes through the housing gets chewed up when resetting the piston. Ive replaced two callipers now, and just gonna replace the O-ring this time but man would I love some toyota brakes back there. But i need the parking brake at the brakes as I have a h55f in it. has anyone added a separate mechanical calliper as an e-brake? so you can use a regular toyota calliper without an e-brke lever on it? I did find a post where a guy that did this but with the electric ones. but cant find anyone thats just connected mechanical ones to the e-brake handle. curious if its been done and anyones thoughts on it. dont wana add any unnecessary electronics to this barely electronic machine :)

Something wrong if you need new pad every year 🤔
With stock 40 MC you change the residual valve for a 2lb , (drum is 10lb) and an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear. Or use a fj80 MC for disc and no abs

You can get a factory parking brake for your split-case and use monte Carlo caliper
didn't have a proportioning valve until 4 months ago so the rears were doing extra work. however not the point of this thread. Not at all interested one bit in hanging a giant vulnerable part under my car that mashes through rocks and whatnot on a regular basis. Im asking about people that have possibly used a separate mechanical calliper as a parking brake. and if I went the brak on t-case route, which i definitely will not, I would not throw another crappy American brake on there. Iliterally explained how annoying these brakes are and that I 100% want them out of my life.

I put one on the back of my tcase with a disc.

Works pretty well now that I finally got the cable adjusted.

Tried one of their little go cart calipers first, but they're pretty hokey by comparison.

I have a 45ff in the rear with front calipers so not easy to mount anything back there on this one.

Lol you said crappy American brake. The only thing crappy was the install and not using a proportioning valve. Nothing wrong with those calipers. I have used them for years with no issues.

you never seen my instal, you know nothing about it whatsoever. I have my reasons for waiting to add a proportioning valve. I made no complaint about pad wear. there is definitely something wrong with these callipers. great to hear you like them.

my complaint is that they leak, from bad design. many people say a jeep is a good car and they've never had a problem with it. does not mean that i would buy a jeep at any point or think that they are reliable in any way based on the much more overwhelming number of storeis of jeeps not being ok. read many peoples complaints and reservations about these callipers, and experienced a repeated problem myself. your anecdote is just that. mine leak. multiple callipers, that sucks. id like to change it. Id like Toyota callipers in the rear. Id like them to not have e-brake actuators. im looking for people that have used a separate e-brake caliper on a 40. it is a thing. that is why willwood sells them. people put them on other vehicles. Im just curious if anyones done it on a 40.

When I ordered my H55F and split transfer case I had the parking brake added because I liked it with the 4 speed and only time it was a issue was when the seal leaked on the output shaft. I also did not want D-rotors on the rear axle when I converted the axle to full floating and used front FJ40 disks on the rear.

The transfer case has a double lip seal so hope it doesn't leak.
