Will Coolant Ruin Belts/Pulleys?

I finally did my timing belt for the first time and while I was at it, I replaced my alternator, fan clutch, fan bracket, serpentine belt, and upper and lower radiator hoses as well as every single idler and tensioner. Feels goodmen.

BUT I couldn't get the upper radiator hose on so I stupidly put some dielectric grease on the radiator and the water outlet to help ease the hose on. Well, once I started driving 70mph, the upper hose blew right off the radiator and I lost all my coolant. Coolant splashed all over my new parts and there was even coolant covering my rear window. (I'm hoping my saving grace was that it was the radiator end that blew and not the water outlet end - that way the coolant could just fall to the ground unimpeded, except for the 70mph air forcing it back toward the engine).

My question is, did I just ruin all those parts?

No, just wash it off.

Nope.. car manufactures know this would happen..so they made belts and other things somewhat robust enough to withstand a this stuff.. as @beatle_bayly said just wash it.

More of my concern is that hopefully you stopped your car in time to not overheat the engine.. which I am sure you did..but some may not realize that.. no coolant = bad bad problems for the engine...

I stopped within 90 seconds (max) of noticing and the temp never got all the way to H until I slowed down enough to pull into a parking lot. So hopefully I'm good there.

Should I spray the pulleys and belt with engine degreaser or simple green? or just water? This happened Sunday night so it's been a few days of driving it since then. All new coolant of course.

I also ordered the Scan Gauge 3 since it has audible alerts when temps get too high - seems invaluable.

Imho I would not spray it with anything. However other may chime in and say otherwise. The coolant is mostly water and chemicals that raise the boiling and freezing temperature of the water. So you should be fine.

just rinse real good with clean water. Next time just use a small amount of soapy water to help with those hoses

Only your pride has been hurt, and we've all been there. ;-)

I use non-diluted AF to lube hoses, as it is slipperier than a 50/50 coolant mix.

Sounds as though all is OK. But for future reference, the temp sensor reads the coolant temp. So if there is an air gap around the sensor due to low coolant it won't be providing a true indication.

X2 I use antiboil to lube hoses, as it is getting into summer now and freezing is not an issue

Lube hoses?
