Why would this be capped?

I have a question about why the po would have capped this on a 82 FJ40. This is the only one I have come across. The other metal fitting below is left uncovered. What does this hose usually service and any advantages to not replacing it. I'm clueless on this. What does this hose usually feed into.

The po has disconnected the oil cooler. The thermostat housing has the oil cooler outlet capped since it is not in use.

The second pic is the oil cooler itself. It is integral with the oil filter mount as it has oil that flows through the bolts that hold the oil filter bracket to the block.

Ok thank you, it's imported from Saudi would there be a reasn to do this or was it just laziness. This is the only one of mine like it.

If the cooler was leaking, that would be one reason. If they figured out that the system was completely ineffective at doing what it is supposed to do, that would be another.

That would make sense, so I hook it back up and make sure it's not leaking. Thanks Mark!

If you're going to hook it up then you're going to see If all the hard bits are present. There are a couple of pipes and 4 hoses. Also the water pump has an outlet off it that is used as well.

The question is whether the time and expense is worth the effort, especially for the minimal benefit it provides. I guess it depends on whether you or trying to be as original as possible and how much of the stuff is still on the truck.

If the cooler pipe was not plugged it will need careful cleaning before hooking it back up!
You dont want any of that sand and other stuff that might be in there in your bearings etc. where the oil is going!

It's only the coolant side that is open to contamination, flush it out with a hose before reconnecting it.
