Got the LX, because it was a Lexus for the bling factor.

Needed something with more passenger & Cargo room than our 2000 Accord.

Needed something that could tow a small trailer for ATVs.

Needed something that could go offroad, and not fall apart.

Needed something I could modify to look better & still be functional.

Needed something that could make it up by steep, rutted gravel driveway.

Even with 135k miles, this thing looked, ran, and sounded brand new...and all that greatness for under $12k was unbelieveable.

I bought my 92 cheap. Needed new birfs and A/C and others. All are fixed and rund great! Truck came with new tires and brakes and belt so $2500 isnt a bad deal.

I have always wanted one.
And it's probably the only vehicle that can follow a Volvo 245.

Cruisers are in my blood, the 80 is my third cruiser (many less than a lot of people)

Always wanted a Land Cruiser
Needed to save money and have more room for family
(2 kids with enormous car seats ...and stuff!)
Sold Tacoma DoubleCab for 16 grand and bought this 96LC for 10 grand
(this should help with gas and PM/Upgrades)
Best vehicle I've owned so far!

Reliability
Durability
Looks cool
Drives like a tank (in a good way)
Wealth of info on the net about Cruisers
Gets hybrid like gas mileage ;)

To tow my rally car and pull said rally car out of ditches if needed...

Which it does brilliantly, seems to get the same economy with or without the car on the back. Haven't had to try out the factory winch or lockers for the other purpose yet, fortunately!

And it's cheaper to run than my BMW 535i, seriously it is!! gotta love diesels :)

umm.. so I can hang out with you guys! And I have always wanted one since the first time I laid eyes on an 80. Oh and its a Land Cruiser :D

For the investment, this was by far the best bang for the buck spent. I test drove numerous trucks and the LC was head over heals better. Use for winter travel and keeping the extra miles off my LS400.

But now I enjoy it for my DD.

-Wanted all-wheel or 4-wheel drive for West Michigan lake-effect winters
-Wanted ability to haul the whole family + a couple friends
-Wanted another durable/reliable Toyota inline-6 (I have 3 now)
-Wanted ability to do some mild offroading with a very capable vehicle
-Wanted to spend all my free time on a website with other maintenance-obsessed owners. Thanks IH8MUD!

how could you go wrong: lockers, 4 wheel disk, full float rear, solid axle front, coils all the way around, good I-6...

did i mention it's a toyota, they are like a timex "takes a licken keeps on ticken"

bought my first cruiser when i was 14 and haven't looked back since. toyota is tops in quality and reliability and cruisers are definite statments to that fact. the ultimate all-purpose all-terrain vehicle.

Crusher

The guy who owned my 97 40th called it "Crusher". Said I could borrow for on an out-of-town trip and buy if I liked it. After that, I wouldn't give it back until I could scrape up the cash. Bought it to haul suited folk over green and brown terrain, durable, rare, tows, never gets stuck, fits 6'-5", and look forward to building it a bit. My 95 Wrangler has hardly moved since (although is a different class vehicle. I wouldn't bounce the LC like I do the YJ).

My 80 was the logical step up from the FJ60 I used to own. I really didn't like the 60 on the highway in the mountains . Once on the trail, it was great, but getting there was tiring, and lot's of times, scary. I could only do about 35-40MPH up some of the hills here.

I was really shopping for a Runner, but always had an 80 in the back of my mind. Luckily, someone posted an ad on our club's message board, I went to see it, and bought it on the spot: 1993, OME lift, ARB front bar, Kaymar tire carrier, seat covers, blah blah blah. Basically, everything I would have done to it was already done...I added some Slee Sliders and have been happy ever since. The kid selling it needed money for college, so I got it at a great price too.

It was an itch I had to scratch. Broke my leg jumping from a plane in August Y2K, and by late fall I was stoned and surfin the web. I discovered EBay, and before I knew what had happened I'd won myself an 80 .. an 'interesting' thing I thought later considering I had only seen an 80 in person once before in my life .. had never even sat in one, and this one was many thousand miles away :D

It's been a sick fawking obsession since.
