Alright, everyone come clean, what's the date on your spark plug wires???
I feel a little ashamed... my plug wires say 1998 on them... :eek:
I'll be calling CDan very soon with a list of tune-up parts.
The Cruiser is still runing great, but really deserves a nice little tune-up.
 
I just recently replaced wired marked 1994!
 
The truck's manufactured in Dec. 1997 so that's 13+ years (124.5 K miles) and still going strong!
 
I replaced my plug wires 2 months ago, and they were the
original '91 wires, and still within spec. 03/91 on door sticker.

I replaced mine in November after buying the truck and they were the originals from 91.
 
Just replaced mine on the 93 and they read 1993. Very brittle to the touch.

Running the oem 1995 wires untill you just jinxed them ;)

I consider these a wear item. After 100k miles, I replace them regardless.
 
Original wires on mine 140K+

Does this count: Original OEM 1991 that came with on my 91 4Runner. I only replace wires when they don't meet the resistance as per FSM.

I tested the resistance on my original wires (dated 1995) 10/20/2008, @121122 miles, and found the following:
#1) 7.35 K ohm
#2) 8.82 K ohm
#3) 12.52 K ohm
#4) 11.90 K ohm
#5) 15.26 K ohm
#6) 16.76 K ohm

FSM spec is "maximum 25 K ohm per cord"

Interestingly, you can see how, as the wires get longer, the resistance increases (duh), but I am wondering if, as you go further back towards higher heat exposure in the rear of the engine compartment, if the wires are "baked" into a higher resistance value over time??

Has anyone taken resistance readings from a new set for comparison with my numbers??
 
201k miles. OE 94 wires. Need to change them. I'm lazy though...

still orig here 97 but after seeing my hoses fall apart at a touch I may be replacing 152k on these
 
I know this is cheating but when I was tuning up my '88 FJ62 last year I replaced a set of 1987 marked wires. Imagine my surprise when my idle improved dramatically post-tuneup! (Disclaimer: I was NOT the original owner!)
 
Mine had the original ones from 1995 with 175k. Replaced them last year. Last thing I want to happen on a long trip is have a spark plug wire go bad.
 
for those of you that replaced them, how much were the replacements and did you notice an improvement in performance?

So if the resistance is greater than maximum the wires are junk?
