Hi All:

I have a couple buddies locally that are using 60 Series rear springs in the rear of their 40 Series.

One guy has been using a stock set ("take-offs") on his SOA rig as substitutes for '55 rear springs, since the diamensions are nearly the same. They seem to be working fine in this application.

The other guy is using the OME 60 Series rear springs on a SUA rig, for two reasons: first off, to move the rear axle back four inches, and also for increased flex.

To use the 60 Series rear springs you will have to relocate either the fixed-end mount or the shackle mount - most folks do the latter.

Alan

I run 60 springs on the back of my 40, I have been happy with them, however in hindsight... it would have been the same amount of work to get some longer Chevy or Ford springs to work... But, I am kindve a "Keep it Toyota" dude so I went with the 60 series rear. Cruiser Outfitters has done numerous such swaps over the years... Paul May (IH8mudder & WCC past President) has one such conversion, it used 60 springs front and rear. One of the biggest improvments, is the bigger busihing, I used FJ60 hangers too so I have all big bushings out back. Hope that helps...

Hi All:

To update this post, in 2008 I swapped-in a pair of OME 60 Series medium-load rear springs, "flipped," under the rear axle of my FJ40. I did no modifications to either fixed end hanger nor to the shackle hanger. I did have to fab-up some long rear shackles (7.5 inches pin-to-pin.)

Regards,

Alan

you must have been reading my mind. i've wondering about 60's springs when i realized 55 springs would have a different pin size than my 42.
you must get tons of flex with long shackles and slack shackle angle?

I have 60 springs on the rear rotated the front also 101" C-C of my wheels

I've had 60 springs for some time now. They work great and as mentioned, net you 4 inches of wheelbase. I moved the rear hanger back, and duplicated stock Fj60 hanger spacing. I also used RuffStuff rear hangers. Here are some pics

Drew, are those shackles also from ruffstuff and how long are they?

Thanks!

Those are their 4 inch shackles. They work well and are reasonably priced.

Hi All:

"CruiserDrew," nicely done!

I installed the 60 series rear springs,2 1/2" lift, flipped them, and utilized the stock fixed end and shackle mounts. Made longer shackles(6 1/2"center to center), on road and off road it handles very well, much smoother ride.
