Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/T or
Toyo Open Country A/T

Any experience out there with these?

Thanks:grinpimp:

Try the search button - those two brands (and a host of others) have been discussed extensively. That said, I just bought the Revo's.

Which ever comes in a 38" .. you are going to be cutting metal, correct?

I think both are a pretty good A/T. Around here you will pay through the nose for the Toyo as Les Schwab is the only one that carries it. IMHO Les Schwab over charges for all tires, if you go to America's Tire you will get a much better deal, and they usually have the REVOs.

Welcome to the board, from across the River.

I'm struggling with tire selection myself. Right now, I'm leaning towards the 295/75/16 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A to go with a planned OME 2.5" lift.

Like anything popular, there are plenty of people who say it sucks. After looking at a bazillion pictures, I think it's about the right size, and is a good compromise between street and off-road.

Any comments?

Consumer reports did on-road testing of several of the favorites.

They ranked the Nittos Terra Grappler ATs first overall

Revos ranked 3rd, but scored low in ice and snow traction.

The BFG All Terrain T/A were not tested.

They only tested on-road characteristics.

Bridgstones are better on the road, Toyos and Nittos better off road, but still very good on road. Bridgstones seem to wear better. I currently have Nittos and Bridgstones.

The largest Bridgstones are 285. Nittos go up from there.

I had the Toyo Open Country's for 2 years here in the Hells' Canyon area. Lots of rock and dirt roads and 3 punctured tires from said rocks. Get up on the plateau in the wheat fields and there is clay like mud when the rains come. These tires are worthless in either of these environments.
I now own Cooper sst mud terrains and couldnt be happier. Yes they are a little noisier but thats the trade-off (slight noise or stranded with a flat or stuckin mud) I'll take any day. I should mention I was not impressed with tread wear either on the Open Country.

I am sure this has been discussed but why 285's?
I would have to get a 285/75/16 which go from 31.2 OEM to 33" diameter.
Is this better? I know the spedo would be off but any other problems.
Better clearence, wider tire etc.

Thanks

jditom, check this thread out. There is extensive discussion within concerning the Revo: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=29035

Needless to say, I run the Revo's on my rig and have not had one problem with them on or off the road.

Ron

p.s. Researching is a good chunk of the fun.

jditom,

The big question is: What is your intened use?

285/75 R16 is a sweet size if you will be taking your 80 off road at all. It won't really affect your acceleration too much, the speedo will be off by about 3 or 4% (which you can easily correct), and you'll have better clearance. (And your 80 will look much cooler as well.)

The stock tire size (265?) is really better for highway driving and safety.

Hayes

P.S. You can run 285/75 R16 on a stock 80 with no problems other than speedo error.

Hayes

The reason for the 285's in the Revo(in my case and amongst other things), is that it is the largest tire that can fit with little or no rubbing during extreme articulation using the stock suspension. The Dueler Revo 285/75/16, and the 305/70/16 (Nitto Grappler?)in another brand both offer no/little rubbing with a stock suspension.

Stock size on my '95 is 275/70 R16. I have that in a BFG All Terrain T/A KO. I'm not a HARDCORE wheeler, but I do go off pavement quite a bit and have experienced some snow lately. The BFGs ROCK!!

Which way do the BFG's rock? The Revo's have no wobble at all :D

Just got 285 Revos yesterday. like most new tires, they ride great and have no vibrations. One thing i did notice, was that they took very little weight to balance. In fact, one of them took no weight at all.

OK stock is 275/70/16 but you all have talked me into 285/75/17 Revo's. Will oder them today!
Damn this is going to be a money pit forum I have joined.
And I am glad to be here:flipoff2:
