ya'll probably already saw the pictures my little bro posted with the broken tcase. i was just looking at the different years of tcases in the tech part of this website and they all look like they will bolt up to any land cruiser tranny. am i wrong? he has an 84 fj60. there is a guy parting out a 40 in idaho falls and says that the 40 was a 3 speed. does any of that matter? what is it based on-spline count? will any tcase off of a 40,45, 55, etc bolt up? thanks for the input.

the split case (fj60/62) is probably the strongest case put in a cruiser. The 3 speed case is notorious for breaking the nose cone. It doesn't matter anyway, neither the 3 or 4 speed case will mount up. The spline count on the output shaft is either 10 or 16 except the very later 40's.

You need the 34MM split case from 9/85 or older 60 series or the elusive late 40 series

Nope. I don't know the year. For some reason I'm thinking 81. It is a split case as it has 2 halves it is easy to identify. Earlier 40's / 55's come with a one piece transfer case.
