Your choice. Either will bolt right up. The older direct drive starter is bigger and heavier and sounds like an older LandCruiser should, the newer gear reduction starter is smaller and lighter but sounds like an FJ60...
You might have to adjust the wires to the starter but not by much.

Get an oem reman gear reduction from Toyota directly - you get a 1 year warranty and it is cheap.

That said - for folks that don't live in warm climates all year and have a pre 81 truck, I'd recommend keeping the original direct drive and rebuild.
