I am rebuilding from scratch my '64 '40 and want to know what should be the interlocks from the key to the starter, clutch, trans in neutral, ?

no interlocks on a stock 64, it is designed to be started in gear if needed

don't overthink this, it is a very simple machine

There are not "interlocks". They would be a detriment rather than a benefit. And they are totally unnecessary. If they can't figure out how to put it in neutral or step on the clutch or start it in gear... don't let them drive your 1964 FJ40. ;)

These days a manual transmission is a theft deterrent. Then toss in manual hubs and a choke, they would have better luck with the space shuttle. Having a hidden kill switch is a good plan because its far to easy to break in to a LC

Even in 1978 they did not have interlocks.

I don't recall ever owning a manual car with interlocks - is that even a thing?
I thought they were only fitted to motorcycles to stop it disappearing from under you.

The ability to crank it on the starter motor and kangaroo to the kerbside when the engine has died has saved me enough times.

I had a F250 and a Dodge 2500 with manuals that had interlocks on the clutch.
The Ford with a bench seat the release on the passenger side didn't disengage and if I took it to the dealer for service most of the the time the kid that drove it around to the service bay could not get the pedal to the floor with out sliding down in the seat an press his shoulders against the seat back.

I was in Argentina and rented a small Chevy with a diesel and forgot about it not having an interlock and it started right up and was chugging across the parking garage.

No manual transmission Cruiser sold in North America ever did.

I would not be surprised. I have only driven my 1978 FJ40 and the FJ60 we had for a week.

I disconnect or jump the interlocks on every tractor I buy. Stand up when mowing it shuts off, let go of handle when snow blowing it stops spinning, brake not set no start. I know Big Brother is just looking out for my safety 'cause I'm too stupit to know smart from dumb, but its infuriating!

trial lawyers, it only takes 1 case, seems it started, or got worse, with the hot cup of coffee spilled in a drivers lap after going thru a McD drive thru

look how many stickers are on the side of a ladder these days
