I'm looking a getting a faily inexpensive reciprocating saw (around $99). I've seen the Dewalt DW304 and a Rigid locally for around that price. Is the adjustable blade positions for flush cutting worth considering on the Dewalt? More inportantly what saw would you recommend in the $99 price range?

Mt intended use is general around the house type of chores.

Funny you should mention it...I bought the Dewalt yesterday and used it quite a bit last night on a roof rack project. I thought the adjustable position blade didn't matter....right up until it came in very handy last night. Definately liked the ability to change blades w/o an allen wrench or other tool.

There can be only one!

Bosch!!!

I have an old Rockwell (Delta) saw...works like a champ. Must be 20 years old. The only thing I don't like is the need for an allen wrench to swap out blades.

Well I went with the Dewalt. Why? I remembered I had a $50 gift card for Sears and all they had in stock in my price range was the one Dewalt and a Craftsman. Although I don't have a problem with Craftsman, if its the same price I'm sticking with Dewalt.:D

Thanks for the replies

Me too. Mine's not an anniversary edition, but it's cordless and has the quarter turn toolless blade change. Very nice.

I've had my Milwaukee reciprocating saw for over 30 years and it has built and destroyed more framing, flooring and cast iron plumbing than I really care to remember. It is the saw that all other companies wish they had the reputation and reliability that the Milwaukee reciprocating saw has. Don't misunderstand me. I own Delta, Porter Cable, Rockwell, DeWalt and Bosch portable power tools both corded and cordless. I find them to be very reliable. Having said that, based on over 30 years associated with construction and remodeling, there is only one reciprocating saw I would invest in.

saw

I wanted something that if I banged it around, it wouldn't hurt my feeling. So I went to Harbor Freight and picked one up for $20-30....took the cheap route and it has worked ok for everything I've needed.

Milwalkee Sawzall and a Skill Mag 77 are two tools you only have to buy once...

There was a write-up in Fine Homebuilding magazine a few months ago. IIRC, the DeWalt scored near the bottom. I purchased the DeWalt a few years ago because it was offered with some super-heavy-duty extension cord for free. I've been happy with mine.
