oil is oil, I just had to add 4qt to the 40 on Sunday, I dont know where it all went but it sure beats having to change it.

How many miles / how long since you last checked the oil? I keep a pretty close eye on my oil consumption, a dramatic increse in oil consumption is a bad sign.

I checked it 2 weeks ago, i would say about 400 mi with 350 of that driving too and from trails at around 3,000-3,200 rpm

Ian-Are you bringing that truck to Rubicon? Better bring a case of oil with you! If you are burning a quart every 100 miles, you have a serious problem! My 2F is pretty tired and I only add about a quart every 1000 miles or so.

I've got an F motor, and the owner's manual says SAE 30, so that's what I use (not sure what a 2F calls for). I haven't seen it mentioned yet, though... Has anyone here had a problem with straight 30? Maybe nobody commenting is using an F. No problems so far, but I've probably only put 600 miles on my cruiser so far. It's my only vehicle for now, so it's driven a lot.

That was before multi-viscosity oils were available.

I'm sure there aren't any problems with using straight 30, but should I be using something else? How would I pick a viscosity? 20w-50 sounds like the popular choice.

We sell Delo 400 at work and its a 15w-40 made by Chevron. A lot of people buy it. I'm gonna switch to it next oil change. My buddy has put 300k+ on his straight 6 Heep motor runnin this stuff so that was enough proof for me!

I use LE (Lubrication Engineering) I swear by this stuff. I have never seen another oil out perform this ever. Read the testimonials on the site. It is a little bit more expensive but you can send in oil samples and they will test it and let you know exactly when you need to change the oil. Just a little food for thought.
