Should be fine. Like the cruiser, it is an antiquated flat-tappet engine w/ a weak valvetrain. The big difference is that a type1 is oil & air cooled, so it can put some serious heat into the oil. You might look at a oil formulated for air cooled motorcycles.

Well, it looks like the NAPA stuff available here is SM rated (no good). But notice that it has the same Napa part # 75122, so my guess is the new flavor is just making its way through the supply chain as with all the other older SL rated oils... Might explain the $10 gal git-rid-of-it price 'cuz the stuff at my NAPA was $16 on the shelf. :meh:

May be different for Kalifornia, dunno, but it is still the same part #

Christ, am I gonna have to drive to Tijuana to get motor oil ?!?

Get the NAPA crap while you can !!

I love mine, too. But i show her affection in other ways...:D

Dang 11 bucks a quart...I'm gonna start dumping straight crude oil down the engine....I need to do a price comparison with the additive with the SN oil...it is 15 bucks a bottle just for one oil change, vs putting something like synthetic Mobil 1

:bounce:

On a lark, I stopped at Carquest, cuz it's on the way home, and found 6 gals (about $15/gal) of this:
.
.

(Part # is above the bar code) No doubt it's the same stuff that's $10/gal at NAPA,, but I can't be too choosy.

Spike, I saw that the other day at Car Quest. The manager said he had 6 pallets in the back. He has a customer (diesel fleet mechanic) that uses it exclusively in all his company vehicles.

I don't know the ppm of Zn, but he said he'd try and round up the MSDS.. I'll post it up if he gets back to me.

2.69 a qt here my price.

It's gotta be the same stuff as the NAPA - made by Ashland (Valvoline). SL rated, so 1400-1500 ppm zinc salts, I'm guessing. Same spex. Same Bat Channel.

How come yours is cheaper? I hate Kalifornia.

IH8U ...

Well you also have to remember that you probably have more people in your local area in CA than we have in the whole state.. Of which, most are not EPA savvy or even care what that stands for. I think we get a lot of the good ole products shipped here that are not environmentally friendly so to speak.

BUT MAN DO THEY WORK NICE! HA!

so I've been reading all of these posts and I can't seem to find an unanimous winner... I am looking for a good oil for my new to me 62, and not looking to try to find old stock in some store. I have always ran Rotella 15w-40 dino in my old engines and 5w-40 Rotella synthetic in my 80. All of this oil formula change talk has me concerned. I wonder if the synthetic formulas are changing as well?

If they have an API label, then there changing/changed. Thats why I like RedLine oil, there not API, and there proud of it!:)

It seems that Costco just started carrying this oil. I think this might be similar to the CAT Deo oil? It is SM rated.

Not what you want.

I started my new rebuild last year on Joe Gibbs, but was wondering about maybe using Rotella with the GM EOS additive. Any thoughts? If Rotella still has a little ZDDP in it than it should be compatible with more additive versus SN oils that may not be compatible with it.
