Both the new flavors of Mystik and Travellers have gone SM/SN.

Brad Penn oil is very good, but expensive.

Grainger's website says they carry Mobil Delvac MX which is still a pre-2007 HDDO SL/CI-4 fleet oil. We'll see if they can get it. Maybe NAPA can order that one. About $27/gal. This is NOT the same as the Delvac 1300.

Also, I found a CAT dealer kinda near my work, so I'll see if they sell or can get the Gals of DEO.

<< sigh :frown:>> I really miss the days of $13/gal Rotella and a $5 Wix filter uncomplicated oil change ...

I picked this stuff up at napa a couple of weeks ago. The tech referred to it as the "old formula valvoline diesel oil". If I remember right, two gallons plus a quart cost me around $35.

Also, the brad-penn refinery is fairly local to me. I've never used any of their products...as a matter I don't know anyone who has. I will definitely be looking into their "green oil" as we have
(2) 2f's and one 3fe to feed.

That's the stuff! But when I was in NAPA a few months ago, the counter dope told me they couldn't get that in Kalifornia - I took him at his word, but the guys at my local NAPA couldn't find an itchy a****** with 12 fingers... But on NAPAs website, I do see two listings for that stuff, one for Kalifornia, so again, I dunno.

Do you happen to have the part # on the receipt - maybe I could get it that way...

I still may have the receipt although I'm out of town until Sunday. If not, I can stop at napa and get the numbers.

Yeah, it would help because they've got a dozen flavors of the "premium blue" one the website and I know the counter guys will be useless, so it'll help to have the info when I go in... . That stuff should be rebranded Valvoline premium Blue Classic oil.

Valvoline Premium Blue Classic Engine Oil 15w-40

Name SAE 15W40 Classic Engine Oil
Size 5 Gallon
Part VV591839
UPC 074130-82933-6

That part # is for the 5 gal buckets, the smallest they sell. That pic is of a gallon jug, yes? That might be some old stock valvoline fleet stuff. :meh:

I snapped a couple of pics of the qt. I didn't use...

The part no's are 75-122 for the qt. and 75-123 for the gallon jug.

Thanks! That helps alot.

I found the MSDS on that oil and it's good - about 1500 ppm zinc compounds.

On topic hijack: Anyone know of a good oil to use on a newer, tighter motor? I know I don't need 15-40 to make good oil pressure, but I would like to find an oil that could be bought with out having to add hard-to-find additives.

I got the part no's backwards! It's 75-123 for the qt. and 75-122 for the gallon...

No worries, I figured it out... :D

Spike, is the NAPA oil above only available from NAPA, or is it also available in a Valvoline bottle?

Or just in a 5 gal bucket from Valvoline?

According to Valvoline's site, Valvoline branded only comes in 5 gal bucket or 55 gal drum...

NAPA branded has Quarts and Gallons... Looking at the MSDS for the two oils, from Ashland, they're not exact, but very close. Both would work just fine, I think. The difference could be that either MSDS is be outdated. Hell, I've been know to lapse occasionally on the MSDS's I'm paid to keep up to date :D

Btw, those gallons that Zambo shows are only $9.98/gal on Napa's site. The 5 Gal bucket of Valvoline branded is around $90.

I'm going to stop by NAPA tomorrow with the printouts and see what they can get, but remember this is all Kalifornia crap, so your local will prolly differ.

I'll post what I find out.

:hmm:

Cat DEO comes in 10W30 if you have a Cat dealer near by. That's what I'm running currently.

Local NAPA shows qty 24 of the 75-122 in stock.

Previously somebody mentioned the green Brad Penn oil. Dunno about running it in a Cruiser, kinda expensive for that IMO, but we run it in our current endurance racecar. It was the oil of choice when i started in the road racing business back in the late 80's. It was sold as Kendal GT-1 back then, but the same product from the same refinery is still available as BradPenn today.

Jim,
What do you think of running the Brad Penn oil in my Karmann Ghia? That car only takes 2 and 1/2 quarts, so the cost will be relatively low. I assume that the air cooled VW motors need the zinc protection as well?
