I love them both, if you want to build a great off road vehicle 100% go with a jeep. I know I will get blasted for that. Stock the fj40 does better offroad, but if you want to build one up the after market parts available for jeeps from the old military all the way through the current ones is incredible. You will never have a problem finding a part for a jeep, used, new, or modified. The only stock part I cannot find new is the original style tire carrier, other then that I think I can go online and buy every part I need to build a 100% new CJ for kicks we actually looked into it. The fj40 has a lot more character and a lot more quality. The gaskets between parts, hold down latches for the windshield and so on. They really made the fj40 right. It is unique and a lot more people want them, but might not be in the market for one. I towed the cj8 home and people looked but that is it. I towed the fj40 home and people honked and gave me the thumbs up, people followed me off the interstate to the gas station to look at it. AC and other repair people like the jeep, but they really want to look at and talk about the fj40's. There is something about them that people like a lot more. AC guy had them in South America, neighbor used fj40's as a kid in Hawaii, it was the only 4x4 that was dependable and could make it up the mountains. He wants to take a picture when I am done to send back to his family. They spark a conversation with people that you would never expect.
