forgive me if i have called it the wrong thing. i am about to duraback the landcruiser and wanted to know where to get the masking tape with the wire in it. i want a nice clean edge.

thanks guys

I got some 3m wire tape at NAPA.

I hope my NAPA has it, but of course that's the last place I've tried. I too am about to Durabak but it's been on hold since I can't find the tape!

Any idea what 3M number the tape is? I can't find it on 3M's website

Try any auto body supply shop.

Didn't know these existed... So this is like a Walmart for auto-body professionals? There's definitely not one of those in my area.

Much smaller than wallmart, and should be able to find them in any reasonable size city.

Eric, to be perfectly honest with you, the NAPA only had one roll of wire edged tape. So i used it up and got another roll of just regular 3M masking tape for auto application. It did not have the wire edge and still peeled off perfectly leaving as good of an edge as the wire tape did.

See.. that's what I'm talking about concrete! good info! so I should go to NAPA during lunch and get wire tape or otherwise 3M auto masking tape...

10-4! If i remember correctly, i think it's neon green (or yellow) in color. I actually have an extra roll still in plastic, but i imagine the cost to ship it to you would be as much as if you drove down to NAPA or autozone and purchased it.

Eric, another tip is to apply the tape in a series of layers from back to front or vise-versa (overlapping). Then use a razor to cut your curves to make them perfectly round. Now, when you go to remove the tape, pull from the starting point so all the tape pulls off as one piece since the tape is overlapping. Hope that makes sense. It will once you start pulling it off.

thanks for the input. my napa doesn't have it. i will just hope that regular masking tape works. i have a bunch of the blue and green tape. i love haveing freinds that work for a tech school.

Same here... my NAPA doesn't have it either...
Nor does the only place that claims to have auto parts supplies...

Are you saying you only have two auto supply stores? If not then try autozone or advance, pepboys, oriely's.

I don't know what I'm saying other than this... every place I've been or called (about 15 now) looks at me in a very strange way when I ask if they have wire tape even after I explain to them what it is for. They tell me they only use regular masking tape.... so.... I guess I'll try a small area with regular masking tape like you suggest.

PS - some of the very strange looks were almost like they wanted to tell me I had a purty mouth, but they did not ask me to squeel like a pig.
