Hey guys, the title says it all... I really need to get my hands on the 54mm socket required to do the axle...

i was going to order one from amazon
http://www.amazon.com/OTC-6612-54mm-Locknut-Socket/dp/B0002STRPO/?tag=ihco-20

But, i would like to start sooner than i anticipate that I would recieve that one....

I live in Greensboro, anywhere local have these guys?

I figure Northern Tool would, but does it need to be a special depth or anything?

Its nothing special, the Northern Tool should have one.

Maybe one of the locals will post up and you can borrow theirs. I did the same and Joe lent me his (that I still have since I had to wait for new birfs to show up), I'm guessing somebody locally has one...

Good Deal, Im sure its something i should have (had to buy a 36mm for the Jeep and a 32mm for the Subie) so ill probably try to get one, unless someone posts up soon.. lol

I was really just curious if it was special, or had to be so deep, etc... Im sure that little sucker will be expensive

I do have one, but recommend purchase for anyone who will be servicing their own vehicles. It's just one of those Toyota 4wd Owners' "need to have". I'm happy to loan mine, and there are probably others in the GSO area that will offer theirs as well. I am in the middle of some front axle work on my truck, so could only loan it for a couple of weeks max right now before I'd need it back.

here is what you want:
Northern Industrial JUMBO Socket — 54mm, 3/4in. Drive | Sockets | Northern Tool + Equipment

unless you have a 3/4" ratchet, you'll also need:
Northern Industrial Adapter — 1/2in. F to 3/4in. M | Adaptors | Northern Tool + Equipment

 R

mt weller, i appreciate the offer man, at that price, im going to go get the socket!!! I need to have it anyway..we are hoping this land cruiser is going to be around for a while... especially considering i've burnt about 4k on it this week!!(nearly)

You can get a 2 1/8" socket as well, it works perfectly fine. Sears has this size, likely other places do too.....

This is what I've always done. 3/4" drive socket with a 3/4 to 1/2" adapter. Works perfectly, every time. Much more substantial than the typical 54mm sockets that SOR and the like sell.

I've got one with the 3/4 inch to 1/2 inch adapter if you need one right away. I'm in GSO as well. I bought mine at sears.

Man, I love this forum. This is an old thread but I was facing the same issue. After searching every auto parts store in town (Boise) a quick internet search showed the stock the suckers at Walmart.

Just an FYI in case some future noob (like me) stumbles on this thread.
