A couple have gotten dried out and gone AWOL lately, and I'm pretty sure CDan told me they're only available in a full kit. I'm looking for the little rubber bumpers that go under the factory bug deflector. They stick on the hood to prevent flapping on the freeway.

Anyone know of a source for these little buggers? I found one spare in the glove box, but need a couple more as I have two of these shields to deal with. BTW, they can be rejuvenated after the adhesive dries and they start coming loose. Use adhesive remover to clean them then fit a square of 3M body emblem double sided foam tape before slapping them back on.

Lookin' for a source..

Thanks,

DougM

Toyota sells a replacement bumper kit.

They sell a variety of adhesive backed bumpers at most hardware stores, I'd go with the clear kind. I think I replaced a few when I still had a bug shield. I buy them for work through McMaster-Carr, they have all shapes, colors, sizes. I think the stock ones are fairly tall, I had good luck with smaller ones from the hardware store.

As Dan says you can get the kit with all of them. Or do as I did, the last time I was at my local dealer, I asked if they had them for sale, I needed one, he reached behind the counter and handed me three.

1. Remove one and make a mold for it out of your son's playdoh.

2. bake mold.

3. fill mold with black RTV silicone.

4. remove dried silicone from mold, trim the end, and slap some of yer fancy tape on it......

5. rinse and repeat

those little buggers on my deflector wore right thru the paint. I have 4 perfectly worn thru spots on my hood. Deflector is now off and stored in my garage.

I took my deflector off due to the fact it rubbed the paint smooth off the hood! :-(

Thats why the instructions (should if they don't) say to mount the rubber bumpers on the hood and not the deflector. The OEM deflector does state this and has a paper template for them.
I've seen cheap rubber bumpers at walmart and Home Depot in the cabinet hardware section, but they don't stick in the heat at all, until I added some RTV silicone to hold them down.

Huh, I thought my bug guard was put on wrong by the PO when they put the nubies on the hood instead of the deflector. But they did screw up by not putting them close enough to the middle where it bumps up because the deflector hits the hood and has worn away a 9" long area on the hood dead center.

Ah thats right!

The deflector on my 80 was on when I got it.

When I bought an OEM one from Toyota for my T100, I now remember putting them on the hood.

On the 80 though they sure collect a lot of debris at the front of the hood.

A few of the suburbans we have a work that run dirt roads constantly we rhino lined the first couple inches up the hood to limit the rock chips. Looks not too bad.

A 60 needs the old stlye delfectors from the 70s 80s. The pure vertical kind. That would suit the lines more.

Looking for a good bug reflector to replace the cracked one I have now. Any suggestions on a relatively inexpensive high quality source?

Man I have 4 horns on the front of my hood. What's the best way to pry off these little suckers?

I had wear occurring on the corners of the hood of a Nissan pickup that I used to own from the bug deflector... don't laugh I essentially did as you quoted above minus the play-dough mold!

I just put a thick blob of black RTV on the corners where the bug deflector was rubbing. Worked just fine and wasn't noticeable in behind the deflector. Later on it just peeled of without trouble.
