ATF is added through the dipstick tube.
Level is checked with the engine running at normal operating temperature after cycling through all gears and back to park.

What model 80 series do you drive and why is the fluid low, does it have a leak?
Follow what Jonheld said in Post #2 above, engine fully warmed up after
maybe 15 minutes of driving.
To add ATF fluid use a funnel with a long narrow spout, place the tip into the dipstick tube, wrap some rags around the top of the tube, some fluid always spills out. Pour slowly, do not fill the funnel all the way up, that only causes more fluid to spill out. Do not overfill. The fluid level does not have to be exactly at the top of the full mark on the dipstick, close is good enough and better than overfilling.
