For those of you that have added a little "sound" to your 40/55's - where did you mount the stereo and speakers?

Did you use a stock LC stereo or aftermarket?

Pics would be great

Jonny

Stereo (aftermarket) got mounted in stock location in the dash without any cutting. Speakers mounted on rollbar behind and above the headrests. Not the greatset sounding but with no top, etc.

I haven't upgraded mine from when my PO put in a descent aftermarket one. I feel as though I will never be able to upgrade mine enough to hear it except for stop signs and lights. So I don't even turn it on most of the time.

Mine is I guess in the stock location cut out to a standard din size.

i've got the stereo in a tuffy overhead because i had to move the heater up into the radio slot when i swapped powertrains. i hate the tuffy. it's a rattle trap, can't lock it in the down position (radio showing), radio bounces around if you wheel with it open regardless of how tight you crank the bolts.

Thank you for your responses guys :)

I have a 1970, so I guess there is no stock location for it. While I really wanted to keep her stock, I do like to listen to tunes once in a while... I was going to try to retrofit one into the ashtray area, but it is too close to the glovebox to give me room. Being that I have no roof/doors, I don't particularly want it out in the open where it can be seen (aka stolen.)

So I was thinking about making a bracket and attaching it inside the glove box, then running some speakers under the rear seats...

Just looking for some ideas. Keep em' coming

Why don't you just get the Tuffy center console that has a din for the Head unit? Everyone here who has the Tuffy console loves it. Including me.

Mounting it in the glovebox would work well and has been done before. You could then put a lock on it. One issue with this is how does one easily change stations, cd's, volume, etc.

I mounted an amp under the passenger seat. I connected the amp to my ipod and play my music from the ipod. I connected a set of box speakers to the amp and placed them under my rear seats. Instead of just the original rubber mats i purchased fitted carpeting from sor. It matched the interior and hid the wires.

If you do get the tuffy console...

When the top is off and it's going to rain..... make sure you cover that console with something, it won't protect the stereo.. Ask me how I know!!!:bang::bang::bang:

2 month old stereo ruined..

I'm surprised, it seems well designed.

Anything that's in the main compartment is fine... It's lid overlaps the body of the console..

The flip-out for the stereo has a hinge that is exposed on the front side... If you somehow seal that hinge you'll be fine. if not it will let water seep onto the stereo face....

chalk it up to ..live and learn I guess

The answer to this is go to boaters World and get a marine grade stereo.

I just bought marine speakers (6x9) because my previous (not marine) had withered away from exposure..

I asked about a stereo, and the guy told me that the components in the stereo will stand up to being in a wet environment, but ARE NOT water proof... especially if it's going to be in a 45* position.. (which means the face has a better chance of getting water in it)

Hmmm. That could be true but I have soaked units before and they kept working. I live on the coast and keep my boat on the boat lift and it gets wet all of the time. Granted they are larger units than what would fit in the 40's application.

My stereo is in a Tuffy console the speakers are at the kick panels. We put an after market stereo in my sons 73 where the factory unit was. Just enlarged the opening a little and popped off the lower dash pads and modified the holes in the dash that the pins go into to shift the pads so they wouldn't have to be cut. It came out very clean.
