finally got my idler pulley bolted up and the compressor clutch pulley only needs to come out 1/4 of an inch, so i'm optimistic about finding another clutch that will fit. i'll post up what i find.

just for reference, the middle of the vgroove is 4/5 of an inch from the back of the clutch and it needs to be 1/4 of an inch further out. about 1 and 1/20 inches out.

this may be a dumb question... but are there shims behind the clutch/pulley?

it doesn't look like there is room, but i don't know. i thought about trying to use a 1/4 inch spacer, but would rather have a clutch that fits if i can. definitely could be an option.

For some reason your pics only load the 1st inch of the pic and then stop loading:confused:

yeah, that's funny. it does that with me sometimes, but sometimes it loads fine. i don't know what's going on.

FWIW Here is a pic of a reman 10P 17C compressor I found at a local AC shop. He had it up on a shelf collecting dust. According to the number on the box it was supposed to be early 90s Mazda MPV
It worked perfectly on the pre 93/05 1HZ bracket/pulley assy. Larger 17 compressor, with pulley set way back on the hub to compensate for the extra compressor length.
I had him order up another unit based on the number on the box, number sub'd up to a different one and compressor that showed up was nothing like the original.

I forgot I had this pic of the compressor I put on the 1HZ in my 73 series.
The number mentioned in the post has been 10P 17C ,but looking at plate on the compressor it is a
10PA 15C
You can see it has a "15" stamped in big letters whereas Sheldons pic has a "17"

Anyone like to guess what the difference would be?

yeah, as it turns out, mine's a 15 too.

rex at coolstream has been very helpful and may have found a solution. i gave him the measurements and he thinks he found a pulley that will line up and let me keep the compressor. if anybody needs any a/c parts i highly recommend rex at CoolStream he has definitely gone out of his way to help me.

17C is a bigger badder compressor.. of course the AC guy explained it with more technical jargon.. but
that is what I got out of it.
I don't think its a big deal really.. as long as you can find one with the pulley in the right place you're good.

I put the AC compressor thing on the back burner cuz I just couldn't spend any more time on it.
Local shop figured he had a combo nailed but needed to order up 6 units at a time ($ up front) and it was a lot more than I was willing to put out without knowing 100%.

If Coolstream can get a 1HZ/1HD-T compressor and pulley together that would be fab.
Got prices yet?

pulley did not work, but cruiserparts.net came up with a 1hz compressor. hopefully it will be the right one.

got my compressor from supposedly a 97 hzj81v gx. as you can see it doesn't fit either. not sure what to do.

what's the measurement fromt he middle of the pulley to the first bolt? Maybe it will work for me. :)

i'll measure it tomorrow and let you know. it's at the shop right now.
Do you know what your 1HZ came out of and what year? You need all the bits from a 70 or all the bits from an 80 series.
I think they changed the 1HZ compressor in 98.

Measure it like I did to get 67mm and see where that would put it. Maybe a 7*series pulley and clutch would bring it to the right spot.
The brackets look different to mine.

The good news is your pics are fully loading on my screen:D

This pulley measures about 82-83 mm. Or roughly 3 1/4 inches. 67mm would put it spot on for me, so i guess i need one from a 70 series.

dang. I don't have the idler pulley to measure for sure.. BUT, I think that the one I need is 3.75". And I think an 1FZ is 3.5"

Might be time to just... build a bracket? or modify the bracket you have.
