What does that mean to you?

In a follow up email to verify, they say "only front Lockers". What would you expect to see in the truck?

Thanks,
Michael

It means they have a locking device in the differential. It depends on what type of locking device it is. In the 60 series they came with cable selected ones(JDM) or aftermarket like an air locker or aussie locker. Search those terms for more than you ever wanted to read on them.

I have seen ads where it stated front locker(s), but what they meant to state was that it had locking hubs..

If they are saying pleural front lockers, that's what I would suspect too. Why put one up front, but not in the back?

If you mean to say why lock only the front diff...

Perhaps there's no product available for the rear in that vehicle. Perhaps the owner doesn't like the slight change in driving style needed to run a rear locker (auto type), and knows that an auto front locker is transparent when in 2wd and manual hubs unlocked. Perhaps the owner has gotten his/her advice from Aussie Locker's www, where they stated a preference for choosing the front when faced with only locking one diff.

mmmmmm, several reasons, it appears to be.

All true I suppose.... In all honesty, when I first starting thinking about an auto-locker, I thought the front was the place to put it (transparency in 2wd being the main reason) but now considering the potential of blowing a birf, and thinking about the weight distribution/transfer, the back seems the only logical choice...... but then, I don't even have one yet :meh:

I wanted to get some opinions without directing my thoughts or tainting the thread.
I purchased the vehicle, and it was advertised as having front lockers.
I was clear in my communication with the seller of my thoughts regarding his advertisement. I said that one of the reasons that I decided upon the purchase, was because of the "locker" up front. He said nothing further..
There were quite a few things that were not disclosed or were not disclosed accurately.
Bearings were said to be repacked and now I am getting grease everywhere. He did not disclose the CD player not working. When asked, he said that he would just clean the dust off the eye and it would be fine [uhh, no..]
A few more things that I am not going to vent about as well..

My point, my intention for this thread was to get some honest opinion about interpretation.

When I hear "front lockers" I am thinking "lockers" not "locking hubs". To me, locking hubs are a given on this and prior models. If somebody IS going to point out anything regarding the hubs, I would think it would be something similar to "manual hubs" or "manual locking hubs", not "front lockers".
A "locker" and a "Hub" are two very different things.
In my mind, one of the selling points WAS that I was expecting a "Locker" in the front. Now, I purchased a vehicle that is worth at least $800 less [mat. and install].

Thus far, picking up my now second FJ60 has been a bummer of an experience.

Bottom line.
Caveat Emptor.

I may end up selling this truck, but with FULL disclosure of issues. I figure that I have lost at least 2k in this endeavor.

Thanks for the input.

You bought a truck sight unseen?

No. I tested it out and took the prev. owners word on the work done. I had asked for receipts via email regarding the locker, took them 3 separate emails/inquiries to verify "Superwinch Lockers". At that point, I got a hollow feel under my sternum.
What kills me is that I was open about my interpretation. He was silent.

Dangit.

""Superwinch Lockers" is what tipped me off after my purchase and subsequent inquiries.
His ad specifically stated, "Lockers up front" and that is all. If I would have heard or read "Superwinch" anywhere, I would have known that he was talking about hubs. I was quite descriptive about my stoke over the truck having a "front locker". I thought I had no reason to question him any further on the claim, but as things started "suddenly" going wrong on the truck, I began to re-examine the other claims on the truck.

That sucks. I've seen several 60/62s advertised that way. Most people have no idea what they're talking about- read the threads in the 80s section about people trying to find out if an 80 series has lockers. It gets really confusing.

If you really like the 60, I'd just keep it and work through whatever problems come up (and they all have problems come up- full disclosure or not). You could get a lunchbox locker for under $300.00 if that's important to you, IMO.

Sorry bro, sounds like you made TWO assumptions at a price of approx. $800. One is the "front lockers" meaning it had a diff locker. The second is expecting the seller to correct your first assumption.
Can you still make a case for having made a good purchase? Did you find anything that improves the value over your expectations?

Best wishes with your truck and I hope the satisfaction of driving it smooths the bitterness of the purchase experience.

Rick

sorry dude.....just for future reference The lockers he referred to is called "lockouts".

And SuperWinch blows.....i threw mine in the garbage.
