Hello,

Recently got an 05 LC and somehow the PO lost the wheel lock. I got the local dealership to remove the locking lugs, but wondering if there is a way to order another locking nut ke, or if I’ll have to get a whole new set of lugs and locks? Of course the dealer said I would have to get a whole new set of lugs and locks for about $70.

Here is a photo of my lug if it helps.

Thanks,
Matt

I got rid of my locking lug nuts...i think I still have my key which you may have if you like. Send me a private message of you want. Found it! Here's the lug key:

Here is a little secret about wheel locks... they are useless. I had a bunch of friends in high school that worked at various discount tires... they just hammered a socket over the lock nut. Hammer to the side of the "lock and socket assembly" had them separate. Whether you had the lock or not... this is generally how they did it (It's a lot easier than going into the lobby and asking grandma to find the key she didn't know existed while there is a line of 15 other grumpy people)

@PageToyota exactly!

I purchased a new wheel lock key for $12.50. It was (in my case) a two piece construction (the key is keyed into the socket) and it broke on me when the PO somehow over torqued the locking lug nut.

My advice is remove and replace with a normal lug nut.

I'm thinking about removing all 4 wheel locks -- too much hassle dealing with them.
Is there a wheel lock on the spare tire? I've never dropped my spare tire.

I would remove the locks, I agree that they are just a hassle.

Nope, no lock on the spare :)

No there isn't one on the spare tire, but if your LX is line mine the spare tire hoist is keyed with the same security pattern as your wheel locks.

The key for it is in your OEM tool kit

This means I better check to see if I have the Jack and keyed part.

If you think wheel locks are fun...wait until you discover the anti-theft key on the spare tire winch (if yours has it).

The first thing I removed was both items (wheel locks and spare tire keyed device).

30 years ago...wheel locks might have been theft deterrents. Not any longer. Thieves these days will have your tires in mere minutes if they want them.
