Here is my 3B engine, I notice this a couple of days ago... seems like a bad gasket, any comments, what would of cause this? And how big of a job is it to fix? Is it going to get worst?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Appears to be your possitive crankcase ventalation cover. Easy fix, get a gasket or use oil impervious gasket maker and go for it, or try cleaning the area first and retorque the bolts. Check for leaks in a couple of days. If still leakng you should fix. Access to all bolts migh be a little tight, may even have to remove your exhaust manifold, but if left leaking , the oil could eventually make its way down to your clutch. Not good.

thanks wckgitcrazy! I'll try retorquing the bolts and see what happens.

Japan 4x4 It's my rust prevention device! :-)

the cork gasket is leaking. tighten each bolt and nut 1/4 turn and wash, see if it goes away. if it is still leaking then replace with a new cork gasket and silicone sealer on one side.
there is no way this could ever get on your clutch.
it is a common problem with 3B engines, personally i would wash the engine and see how fast it comes back, if it comes back with in a couple weeks then fix... if not ignore or try the above fix.
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN cork gasket bolts, they break easy and crush the gasket as well as warping the cover.

cheers

Looks like a small seep left over time. My engine looks the same.. It doesn't bother me too much. Cause I never saw oil drops on the driveway from it. So I know its really slow.

I would do like Crushers say.

I had the same thing, and honestly it is not so easy to avoid the fuming of this side of the engine. Retight the bolt, wash and watch, keep doing this until you don't have any leak. But be carefull with the cork gasket not to tight it too much.

I changed mine for a new one and took a few week of tight, wash and watch, until i got the leak stoped. But even without a leak, its hard to keep that side clean. And if you plan on changing the cork gasket in place, its not a easy job to do, mostlikely some of the old cork gasket will stay on the engine and removing it in place is hard. Remove the cover only if you have a really constant leak

Pushrods are on the other side of the cover.

Like other said, if it ain't leaking on the floor don't try too much to fix it.

Thanks guys for the great info! Glad to know it's not a major problem... I'm not running the cruiser this winter, so i'm spending more time in the garage thus discovering new problems each time I look! Still can't wait to get her back on the road although there's allot of work to be done before summer, front knuckles, front and rear brakes... and some goodies rear locker and newly build front bumper! And if I'm not to ambitious a Rollcage, WILL THE MADNEST EVER STOP!

Anyways I'll try your tips as soon as the weather gets milder.
Cheers,

Common knowledge

Arent 3b's supposed to leak??? I find wiping mine down every few weeks [ it leaks around the front of the head and in the same location above] is a great stress relief excersize. Tim

Great idea... when it's not -20C outside and your feet are not stuck in the cold wet slush!

(for you guys downunder - slush it that wet snow, salt and mud mix that stays wet and is incredibly penetrating even through 'waterproofed' leather all the way down to -10C, and is the number one cause of rust on our vehicles)

My 3B doesn't leak there but it drips small bits of oil from this tube. It'll do it only when the engine is actually running though so no fear of it running dry as long as I check it from time to time..

but not leaking like that.

Yep, That oil in front of the engine /head and around the push rod /lifter cover.I got the new gasket on the pushrod cover, and am tweaking that situation as described above ,still seem to have the oil at front issue and I swear it is not the rocker cover gasket leaking ?? Anybody have the answer to this leak in front ??

joe, if you can post a pic of the leak location.

You can replace both the side cover and oil pan with FIPG (use the Toyota black). No leaks, and if it is your front main...it will become apparent real quick.

is the toyota black like "ultra black" atv? I used that on my oil pan. It seems pretty nice stuff.
