89 fj62 - driving down road going around 62mph and it started screaming(belt). smelled burning. got to station and the alternater was not turning but was trying to( was dark). went back later to tow it and the fans not spinning.. alternater is turning now. so my question is do i need a water pump and clucth fan. is it a bearing somewhere.... yes i've read every faq ... please any advice

EEEEEEEEEEK. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it does sound like the water pump and unfortunately, it's a PITA to replace!

I am not a trained mech, so take my free advice for what it's worth...

A water pump fails slowly (usually by leaking) and not by seizing.

An alternator rarely siezes either.

The smog pump however is well known for seizing w/out warning. This will cause a rubber smell to permeate the surroundings...

The belt to the smog pump also goes to the waterpump.

The quick and dirty fix is to move your A/C belt to the water/alt/main pully's. You'll loose powersteering, but will be able to drive just fine.

Replacing the smog pump with a new/reman/idler pully is in your future I'd bet.

2X on the water pump failing slowly but when they do seizing they often go clear thru the radiator.(Believe me you would have to be blind and deaf to not notice that) At least mine did :the start of the rebirth of BT60 was finally kicked off by a seized water pump.
