What's that little slot in the dash for?

This has likely already been covered, but I couldn't find it. Does that little storage slot right above the radio have a particular purpose? Maybe to store a single cassette tape? Or was it just an empty space on the dash that Toyota figured they ought to put something "useful" into?

Yeah, who knows.

You can get an OEM cup holder for it.

Not sure I'd trust that cup holder, in motion anyways, it doesn't look too sturdy, but if that's what it's for why not put the cup holder there instead of just the slot? Or did mine just get lost before I bought the car?

Nah, you didn't miss it. We all got the slot.

The :princess: drinks small coffees, so it works.

Gamiviti makes a cool insert for it that let's you add switches, gauges, or a CB mic holder.

Cup hold works fine. It's just not wide enough

OEM spare 8-track storage compartment. Its in the FSM.

The cup holder that goes in the slot works nicely, it doesnt do much good for any other use. Too narrow and shallow for holding anything. The Gamiviti insert makes total sense as well

I thought I read on here somewhere that it was designed as a business card holder.

It's for your 5-1/4 floppies, mang.
