The garage door jumped out grabbed the mirror recently. After that it would swing all the way forward every time the vehicle started and the driver would have to manually pull it back into position. If that wasn’t inconvenient enough, it did not click back into the right position. Seems to be common enough that several Mud threads helped me diagnose and replace the mirror actuator assembly and all is good now. But what happened?

The motor housing is packed with glue and grease. A circuit board holds a small motor that turns a series of gears connected to the mirror shaft.

Once I separated the guts I found the ring with position indents was mangled.

No telling if this little ring is the cause of other’s issues too, but the whole assembly has to be replaced anyway. There ya go.

No wonder my mirror is flaky.
