I just bought a '97, 55k, diff locks, near pristine condintion. Feels great! It doesn't have a receiver hitch, but does seem to have the transmission cooler. Besides the hitch, is there a difference between this Cruiser and one with a "tow package"? Also, the factory hitch is no longer available from Toyota. If anyone can lead me to one (used OK), please let me know. Many thanks!

IIRC, the tow hitch is the only difference, all had the tranny cooler standard. Not sure about where to get the hitch if Cdan doesn't have it.

ohhh......what i would give for a vahicle like that......one day..........how much did you pay for it................sounds SWEET. congrats......

Hitch and wiring harness. I put a Master Hitch on mine primarily for the bike rack, still need the harness. Hangs a little lower then a stock one, but it was a decent price. The pro is also a con, and that is that it sticks out a little further too. Makes for a nice step to get get to the roof but also makes for a nice shinn buster, OUCH!!!! It held up real well when I got rearened by a Caddy too.

I recall the Valley hitches were the OEM part unless they came from Japan with the toyota hitch. I know Valley still makes the hitch.

Landpimp is correct. Valley Industries. Check out their website to see if they still have hitches for your model year. They do/did make OEM for Yota.

My '97 has a Reese. Does that mean it is an aftermarket hitch?

Ben, don't know. All I know is that when I bought my hitch from a Yota dealer it was a Valley Industries hitch and a Lexus wiring harness, which of course fit my LC perfectly.

Valley was the OEM vendor. The OEM hitch is discontinued. Valley likely still offers their version of the hitch.

Yes, but still need the wiring harness. Is that available still? Or is one forced to play cut and paste with the wires?

Tom

Check out Hoppy for aftermarket harnesses. As Landtank mentioned, that's probably the one Napa carries. I've seen them at Pep Boys in SoCal. They make harnesses for most makes and models, including our LC's.

When my original 'black box' on my OEM harness went bad Yota (before Cdan) told me they couldn't get the wiring harness separately from the hitch part number - horse hockey! Lexus could and as I mentioned above, that's the harness that was in my Yota box when I purchased the hitch from a Yota dealer. Lexus could order the harness for something around $65. I think Hoppy's runs around $30. You do the math!

Hoppy's supposedly comes with all the proper molex connectors to plug right into your existing LC rear light electrical harnesses. Less than a  job.
