I currently own a '93 that I love. I may have the opportunity to buy a '96 at a good price, but not sure if it is even worth thinking about making the swap. If most things about the trucks are equal (lockers, milage, paint, interior, overall condition) are there any advantages or disadvantages to moving to the '96 year model?

I think I read somewhere that the '93-'94 year models have a better transmission or t-case, but isn't the engine in the '96 larger or more hp and an available turbo?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Turbo would be aftermaket. If you like OBD II, and air bags, 95 to 97 would be your choice. They all have the same HP from 93 to 97.

same engine all years, supercharger was not a factory option

93-94 have VAF meters, OBD1, and the A442 transmission sometimes regarded as being 'stronger'

95-97 have MAF sensors (take to being supercharged much better), OBD2, Airbags, and the A343

other differences are trivial and include

different length front drive flanges
different factory radiator, brass 3 row to aluminum 2 row (completely compatible with each other though)
different cat setup
different interior instrument/dash setup, and a couple other interior design bits

93-94s have TOYOTA spelled on the grille, instead of the toyota logo, which is totally what sold me on the earlier 80. I also prefer the older dashboard layout.

EPA also rated later 80 series' as having slightly higher fuel economy, though I believe it's largely unsubstantiated, and there's a huge range of numbers for MPG on this forum.

Thanks this is what I wasn't sure about.

I am hoping to get this in the mid 2K range. It has 230K miles, locked, with good paint (no oxydation) and only minor interior wear. Needs knuckle rebuild and A/C charge for sure and the head gasket has not been replaced. Going to have Edwin at Land Cruiser Specialists check it out just to be sure.

Is it worth the money??? Worst case I could part out???

I have seem some LC in far worst condition than what you described, and they were asking 2 to 3 times more.

I took a look at the Cruiser today. Not bad looking. There is oxydation and hail damage on the hood and minor scratches on the body. The interior leather has minor cracks and the wood grain dash pieces are in bad shape. Gas fill lid doesn't close and a few other minor things. A/C not working and may need knuckle rebuild.

I decided to pass on this one since I already have a 93 and this was going to be an extra. Still think it would make someone a good truck. The sellers name is Craig and his number is 512-577-2816. He is asking $3800

Disclaimer: Today was the first time I have met the seller, I do not have any affiliation or stake in the truck.

1994 FTW
