What to replace? AC compressor, clutch, or bearing?

On my LX450 the AC still blows cold but makes a vibrating/wobbling noise when it's on.

I've read a ton of threads on this topic, but still have a few questions.

Does this sound like the whole compressor, clutch, or just the bearing needs to be replaced?(I've read mixed views on this)

I've heard that the best place to get these parts are rock auto and cool stream AC. Any other suggestions?

I would replace the whole compressor. I used a Denso compressor from Amazon but I'm sure you can get it elsewhere.

Don't just throw money at stuff.

The FSM has very specific protocols for checking the magnetic clutch as well as the compressor.

Follow the tree diagram and figure out exactly what the problem is and how to fix it.

There are many sources for replacement parts. I recommend Cool Stream since they are good for packaging everything you need and carry Denso replacements-- not Chinese junk or Delco crap.

Again, don't just throw parts at things. :)

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I'm living in an apartment and don't have the room to do my own work. I'm going to take it to a Toyota tech who does side work at his home next week so I'll be sure that he diagnoses it properly.

Thanks Beno and Mike for the recommendations.

erea77, here are a couple easy checks you can make to help diagnose: 1) look at the compressor pulley when the A/C is on and see if it wobbles or runs true and 2) check the tensioner pulley, it's right next to the compressor pulley, they are know to have the bearing go bad.

Been recommending many folks to your fine business.

Keep up the good work!
