When I find a 60 for sale what should I look for? What are the normal problem areas? How much rust is too much? What are the normal ware spots because of age? What should I stay away from?

For me Any rust at all is too much rust. Any get one with a good interior.
My advice would be to find one that has as little mileage and as high condition as you can possible afford. Stock is good.
You will spend more fixing an beater than you will save over the condition premium that the seller of a pristine 60 asks.
Have a definite goal in mind when you buy your truck. Do you want to drive it daily? Do you want to modify it and take into rough country? How much work are you willing/able to do yourself? What mods will you do, and on what schedule?

Nothing much more than any other used vehicle. Engage the 4 wheel drive and inspect the birfields to see if they have been maintained and not leaking bad. There's a tool bag and jack in the rear driver's side panel in the cargo area. Chances are that the spare tire won't come down so don't expect too much for a vehicle in the NE of the US. Thank you for the responses. I plan on using it as a daily driver. I am also going to try to do all the work myself. I am going to be going to UTI for Automotive technology starting this summer. I have a couple more questions though. What is "high mileage" considered on the trucks? Any real problem areas I should look at specificly?
I would think that anything under 100k is low mileage for this age of vehicle and anything over 200k might start to be high mileage. But, of course, some people have over 300 their 60's. If you have never bought a used car before make sure you have somebody who is more experienced in determining the car's condition. It never hurts to have a second opinion even if have experience buying an old vehicle.
