what size socket do I need to remove the nut on the main pully off the engine? my timing gear cover is leaking oil and I want to pull that all off and put a new gasket on there...

do I need to drain the oil? should I alsl just replace the water pump gasket? any works of advise?

I used a 1 3/4" for my FJ62 crank pulley nut. Not sure if it is the same size as the FJ40 nut?

No need to drain oil as it's all in the sump. (Hopefully :D)

Yes, replace pump gasket if you have one handy. They are easy to make using the old one as a template. I just recently did this...

Did you use thread sealant on the bottom two timing cover bolts? I read somewhere on here that you should. I did on mine but have no idea what leaks I will have when I start it...

then engine build put it on... so not sure what he did... I wish I would have know before I put the engine in as It would have been easy to change then.... now I get to pull the radiator again... should have done it when it was out last week, but again... I am not too smart and like to make work for my self!!

46mm

Snap on, 1/2 drive impact socket, IMM460

Then you will need puller equipment as well...

Are you sure it is just the cover, and not the engine end plate behind the front cover?

No need to drain the engine oil. No reason to remove the water pump either...
