First off I tried internet searches to no avail. Then a review of the stickied FAQ here and a look at the tip/tech section as well...but no luck. Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction or provide the info I need (or may have missed).

Rig info: My fj40 has had a 1" bore toyota pickup master cylinder for several years (I believe its from a '92 v6 extended cab 4x4). I run toyota pickup IFS rotors/calipers up front and the ~12 rear toyota pickup drums/axles (off an IFS truck) mated to my dana 60.

The rear wheel cylinders finally quit working and all the parts stores ask me "do you have 7/8" or 15/16" wheel cylinders?".
Do you guys know which size works better with my 1" MC?

1. Where you able to drive it with this FDB, MC and drum rear brake combination?
2. If so, how was the front to rear brake bias?
3. What size rear drum wheel cyclinders do you have now?

Your answer will be based upon how you answer these 3 questions.

dgangle, thanks for the response.

Had this combo since 2002. Its worked adequately (acceptable but not great). But the last couple of years it just didn't quite seem up to par. I got it in the garage last night and will check to see which size is on it tonight.

The reason the two different sizes got me concerned is that a friend of mine had a brake job done on his chevy 1 ton by the dealer when he bought it. Apparently two different sizes of rear wheel cylinders were available for the truck and the dealer put the larger size on it. The brand new brakes had a marked reduction in performance until they swapped in the smaller size rear wheel cylinders.

PS As for a disc swap...someday. Right now $25 for new cylinders is a bit more in my current budget as compared to a couple hundred for discs....someday though.
