Anyone use a Thule or Yakima fairing for their safari racks? I know Yakima sells them in different sizes for like $70.00? Will they attach? I gues you could fab something up to make it work.

They aren't quite wide enough nor not quite tall enough for my app. Nothing more than black thin plexiglass, a bulb type seal for the windshield (source: MMC), a few holes and brackets.

Front Runner Wind Cheetah roof rack teaser photo :). Wind noise is less than I expected. I did, since I've never wheeled this rig with a roof rack, notice the extra weight up there; mostly in high crosswinds. But otherwise the utility outweighs whatever negatives.

I'm going to fab a wind fairing to sculpt the wind up and over the rack. But, again, the wind noise isn't bad.

from what I learned with my AO fairing test I did, you'll need to put supports down from the lower part of the rack to the leading edge of the fairing or you get some serious harmonic resonance as the high winds hit it from an angle. Head on you'd be fine. Maybe contour it to the roof(my bottom edge was flat) and put some weather stripping in to really prevent any wind from getting underneath it.

Basically I'm going to copy the older Yakima fairing version; their brackets run the full height of the fairing for full support. The bulb seal is what bridges and seals between the windshield and the fairing material. Same stuff I used to bridge the gap between the LC body and Christo's new bumper.

It is not, due to the relative quietness of the rack, a huge priority...

Yakima has a 50 incher & Thule has a 52, but, as you said, might not be tall enough. They have a weird design now. I had a Thule on my Pathfinder () years ago, but it was more of a rectangle, didn't have that strange curve they seem to have now...

^ I have a Surco rack. It's pretty cheap and doesn't attach to my Thule load bars very easily. The mounts didn't work so I had to fashion something from U bolts.

It works for some applications but clearly isn't in a league with the higher end racks in terms of quality construction and accessories to carry a variety of items.

Well I went with the FR rack from fellow mudder bdyer. He was relatively local (well, 2 1/2 hours away, but that is local in terms of nearby mudders). Further, he was so very kind to help me install, which saved me hours of frustration.

Here are a few pics, not sure about the LF 240s.... kinda big and bug-like.

Just wanted to put this out there- more details to follow in about a week...

New roof rack specific to hundy owners. Flat design with integrated faring up front.
Will accept lights up front and attachments on the side. Low profile about 2-2.5 inches off roofline.
Perfect for RTT's even for the Maggiolinas and Columbus tents.

First batch priced very well for fellow mudders.

Sorry for the tease- details to follow.

Looks great! And loving my recently purchased FR so far too! Made a wind fairing for it...didn't think the rack was noisy until I put the fairing on ;)

you really should open a shop that's exclusively for 100 series to cater to all the 100 owners in the nevada and california area:D

Do you have pics? And would you consider making another, or providing instructions?

I put on a sunroof shield (not sure you can really see it in the pics) that helps with the wind noise, but it is definitely more noisy that my OEM rails and Thule bars were.

You'd think they could have sculpted the leading edge of that rack to be at least a little bit aero... especially considering they call it the Wind Cheetah. Or at least design a slip-on / bolt-on plastic leading edge like the Yakima Windjammers to reduce wind noise.

The FR rack is relatively quiet. Much more, in fact, than say a plain dual bar Yakima or Thule; But I get what you're saying.
