Has anoyone checked what PSI they get at 1000, 1500, 2000rpm, 2500, 3000 rpm and 3500rpm?

13B-T

Thanks.:)

i am assuming you mean the boost PSI.
that will vary depending on the load on the engine, driving down a flat road at 90 km/hr at 2200 rpm will have a different boost than climbing a hill at 2200 rpm

I need to know this.

I am observing power issues. I need to be sure it ain't a failing turbo. When I remove the wastegate hose I see 12psi max with CT26 @ 3500rpm. With wastegate hose attached and acutator functioning, I only get 5-6psi @ 3500rpm.

I notice power increase soon as tubo kicks in above 2psi. And the green light turns on @ 2psi @ 2000rpm.

green light is normal, red is over boost.

what conditions are you seeing this at? flat road? hills? towing?

if flat road then that is about normal...

With load and enough fuel you need to see more boost .. I can make full boost if I drive hard at my both turbo cruisers .. and in my 1HD-T with no wastegate conected it can make 20 PSI easy at 2k rpm ..

You could have a dodgy wastegate actuator, but have you ruled out boost gauge issues first?

The best way to check a wastegate actuator is to put a handpump with a pressure gauge on it. it's easy to spot the opening pressure and find leaks without the engine going.

Crushers:

Flat road, high way. No load but full throttle.

Tapage:

With waste gate hose removed at 3500rpm flat road full throttle I get 12-13psi. It's a CT26 turbo. So that means the turbo is dying. right?

Coldtaco:

Factory 13b-T with a CT26 turbo and wastegate attached is 8-9psi, I know that. But when I have wastegate attached I only get 5-6psi full throttle at 3500rpm, flat road.

Dougal:

I already have changed the acutator. Same result. Boost guage is working fine. I am thinking to use an air compressor to check this new wastegate just in case.

--------------------------------------------------------

I am more intrested in boost at lower rpm as I think if there is more boost at lower rpm, my power issues will be resolved. I get 5-6psi with wastegate hose removed between 2500-3000rpm on flat road, full throttle. Turbo kicks in at 2000rpm with 2psi.

-------------------------------

sounds normal to me..
try a steep hill and see if the boost goes up.
or hook a trailer on behind...

If the wastegate is working properly, it should stay closed until your max boost is reached (probably around 10psi).
The fact you can get more boost by disconnecting the wastegate line points to the wastegate not working correctly or disconnecting the wastegate somehow interfering with your pressure readings.

I believe you must get full boost at 2k rpm .. if not there is something wrong ..

With disconected wastegate, how much boost you have at 2K

nah, load, my friend will determine when full boost is achieved...
sounds to me like the factory waste gate is set to open lower than normal...hence the increase of boost pressure when the waste gate is disconnected...

Dougal:
Yeah waste gate should stay closed at 10psi but it doesn't. I have noticed wastegate rod movement at 5psi (this I did by asking some one to press the throttle to full while I watched wastegate rod movement).

Tapage:

With Wastegate hose disconnected, at 2000rpm I get 2psi which is same as when wastegate is connected.

Cruchers:

Yes, the FSM says 8psi with full throttle when vehicle is idle. This still does not justify 5-6psi I get when on high way. And I get 4-5psi full throttle when vehicle is idle with wastegate hose attached.

i have yet to see a factory stock 13BT reach those numbers with no load...and i have seen my fair share...

but if you really think you can achieve that, then good luck to yah...
<i am out of here.>

any chance that you or the previous owner change the fuel settings on your IP ..

2 PSI WOT at 2K it's not normal IMOP ..

Tapage:

Could be. If so, what to do? Is there any 'in home' method to fix it?

Crushers:

I agree with you but when vehicle is idle, i.e. stationary with full throttle I should get 8psi it's what the FSM says. I could be totally wrong here, I am no expert. Accept my apologies in any case.

turning back your fuel adjust to factory .. but that's it's complicated in the vehicle without a pyro gauge. Actually I don't recomend mess with the fuel adjust without a pyro guage.

Tapage:

I will buy a pyro then.

The engine temperature hardly rises. The temperature gauge needle barely touches the first white line. I have never been able to bring it to middle (which is the operating temperature) even in summers with hard driving and AC on. So the engine remains cool below the factory operating range.

Does anyone know the exact fuel adjustment screw for 13B-T IP? I need pics as I am not able to follow the factory service manual.
