What parts (how many?) come in the 04446-60080 power steering seal kit? IIRC you need to order the block O-ring separately, anything else? Anyone know the shaft bearing number found on the seal of an old bearing? What I need is the seal color and type of an original which is indicated by the letters after the number ie: NSK 6203DX--.

I'm thinking about the power steering pump seal kit. The shaft bearing apparently is not available as a Toyota part so was hoping someone had an old pump laying around and could check the numbers on the bearing.

I can get you some numbers tomorrow when I lay my hands on it at my work space.

Kernal, keep us posted. I got the gates kit and a large O-ring and high pressure gasket from toyota. Havent rebuilt my junk yet. Wanna know if i'm missing anything before i tear into it. Also, i thought i read a thread where someonr posted a bearing part number, dunno if its a NSK though.

powderpig: From a previous post it appears to be a 6203 bearing IIRC, 17x40x12mm; the brand and numbers/letters and color of the seal will help me find the correct replacement.

IIRC, the ones that I have done were shielded (most times denoted by "ZZ"), but don't think it matters? They are lubed by the PS fluid and it will leak past any of the types of bearing "seals".

I just checked my bucket of parts from my rebuild, and found the box with the old bearing inside. The box has a Napa part number of 6203-2RSJ.

yep, you need the largest Oring and the bearing in addition to the kit. I did mine and figured why not go ahead and replace the bearing, good thing too, it was shot.

Watch out for a small inner Oring inside when you do the rebuild, easy to miss and wonder why you have an extra piece laying around.

Toyota Don: could you look at the old original bearing you pulled from the shaft and post up what it says, better, take a close-up photo of the seal face. If powderpig can also find an old bearing that would confirm what bearing style/type was used.

Shoot, I'm at work now and the part is at home. I just know we looked at it, and cross-referenced the number with that Napa one. It's worked well for me since I rebuilt the pump about 6 months ago.

If you still need it later, I'll try to get a pic.

ToyotaDon: if you can get a photo or the numbers off the seal that would help.

landroamer: if you think Viton would last longer than rubber and know the sizes/dimensions of all the O-rings for the power steering pump and a source please post them up.

Actually the bearing is not lubed by the PS fluid. It is on the engine oil side of the seal.

The Toyota bearing is the steel seals on both sides, 6203Z on the seals, made by NSK.
I have been getting and using the nachi 6203-2nse9 bearings that use a orange syn seal.
The napa has gone to a chinese bearing that is costly comapare to a local import auto house(I think the last time I checked napa it was close to $32 where my local import sells me the Nachi bearing for around $10) go figure.

powederpig: interesting that it has the steel shields?; AFAIK those are non-contact seals/shields. Someone else, forget who posted it, had a photo of the bearing and it had black rubber seals? What year was your pump, has it been rebuilt before?

Edit: Found it. Here's a photo gnob posted showing the shaft bearing from his power steering pump. Wondering if yours or his pump have been rebuilt previously or if the factory used different bearings??

I have rebuilt many of these in the past 12+ years of working on 80's. they all have been the steel sealed bearing( I have given the part number above for) from the 93-97 model years.

powderpig: the nachi bearing you use appears to be a sealed bearing with higher heat tolerance than a standard rubber seal, but also a tighter seal than the original bearings that used shields?? Do you have a photo you could post up of an old bearing?

As requested.

It was a little noisy, hence the decision to replace.
