Starting a new project already! Just finished the swingouts so now going to attempt something more "major." I want to make a flat winch plate for a custom bumper setup. The winch plate will bolt to the frame and the bumper will bolt onto some mounts which are also attached to the frame. What thickness and type of steel should I use for the winch plate?

Also, it is for a 100 series landcruiser. Estimate when loaded down would be somewhere in 7k lb range

Use 1/4" flat plate.

Hi All:

X 2 what Wile E Coyote wrote. If you want to over-build a bit 5/16th plate works.

The important part is how you connect this winch mount plate to the vehicle frame rails.

Good luck!

Alan

Your winch plate is only as strong as the duct tape holding your bumper on.
