That looks like a good one.
The wire ones are more for traveling - the solid plastic ones are better for training, etc.
(In theory. Pat's dog seems to like the wire - but Patty lies all the time. And he's usually drunk. His sexuality is pretty questionable, too.)
It's got the plastic bottom to clean out the crap. I figured that if you just threw a sheet or something over the top and sides, it would be about the same as plastic sides.
I have one like this:

It came with the dog when I got him. It comes apart for storage. It is very sturdy and we used it to crate train our lab and then flew him to the Caribbean and back in it. The thing is 12 years old and held up great. We hve the biggest they make and I think they are available at K-Mart.
That's what you'll need to do with it - use a heavy blanket that will help block light, etc.
X2
I wouldn't. Ever been in Alabama in the summer? Especially in the 1 br apt of a broke assed college student who didn't pay the air bill?

I've been working for 6 months before my last semester, bills aren't the issue.
I'm not sure if they make one of the plastic types large enough for a 90 pound doberman.
Sure they do. My 90lb lab can turn around in his. If I ever start fussing at him, he beelines for the crate. He knows the "rule" that he can't be touched in there. He'll steal the other dog's bone, and hightail it to his crate, too.
