hi guys, need some help with a big roof flashing job. I am thinking about DIY because just the materials alone are going to be pretty spendy.
what kind of machine will cheaply do multiple bends in lengths of roof flashing of up to about 120 degrees? I would like something that will do as long a length as possible.
and what tool is good for getting nice clean straight cuts in flashing including compound mitre corners? I recall the gutter guy at our last place used a metal wheeled chop saw to do the mitred corners. the pieces i need to cut will be way too wide for that. I am thinking maybe a small portable table saw but I'll have to get it up onto my roof which will be hassle so i'm hoping there is something smaller/lighter.
my new to me circa 1927 house has a flat roof with a parapet (false wall extending above the roof). The parapet is about 16 inches wide and is flashed on top with a custom bent galvanized flashing that is bent over the sides to give a clean finish on the outside and to shed water onto the roof. the flashing is original and is rusting in places and there is a lot of tar patching that is making me nervous.
The house also has large gutter downspouts made of sheets of galvanized metal folded into a box. the bottom pieces of up to 8 feet length are rusting so I will need to custom bend some galvanized sheets to match them.
