Hey guys, this is on my '77 40, this thing is mounted on the manifold shield right behind the carb. What is it? Where should it connect to? I don't have a free connector anywhere near that area of the engine. I do have another one of these located right above the valve cover on the firewall. Should there be only one?
Thanks

That looks like some type of thermo sensor but it is not doing much hanging in space there. The factory one should be mounted against the exhaust manifold at least that is where mine is, not sure on 77.

I just hooked my carb fan on a switch in the cab. For those hot wheelin days and I don't know if my thermal switch works.

That's the early 75-76 thermo fan switch. It connects to the harness that comes out of the firewall above the valve cover.
Maybe your 77 has had the engine replaced?

Can you post a pic of the other switch above the VC? Never seen one there.

I know somebody who needs one of those 1976 switches if yours is not being used....

I'll take a pic and post as soon as i get off work.
Thanks

Here's the other sender which is connected to a connector in the wiring loom. Thanks. This connector is round and the previous connector is rectangular if that helps. Thanks

The bracket screwed to the firewall does not seem correct. That is the PCV hose bracket that should only be mounted to the top of the intake manifold.

The hose clip that mounts to the firewall is shorter and retains the heater hose. The PCV hose is clipped into a couple of clips along the rear of the aircleaner.

I'm guessing that at some point the truck was disassembled and parts were mixed up, so the truck ended up w/ the correct temp sensor mounted in the wrong (firewall) location. And the wrong (1976) temp sensor still mounted on the 1976 engine.

So Jim, the one I have on the firewall should be moved to the top of the manifold as per first photo, and the one I have one the manifold(square connector) I don't need and should send to you? Right? Do you need the whole bracket or just the sensor?
Thanks

Correct.

And I can send you the heater hose clip that should be screwed to the firewall.

I'm looking for the whole bracket w/ sensor.
Somebody just left the whole thing off this otherwise stock Cali FJ40...
LMK what I owe you.

Your knowledge and willingness to share is worth alot more than the sensor, thanks. Where should I send it to?

Hi Jim, does this look right? I moved it from the firewall to above the manifold. It was attached to the clip holding the heater hose. Your sensor will be in the mail tomorrow. If you must send me back something, would you see if you have the "L" bracket shown in pic #3 for the passenger side? If you don't have a spare, don't worry about it.
Thanks.
